What a fascinating photo! I’d be really interested to know how you took that and exactly what creature they belong to.

FYI: This photo was taken by a friend of mine. The feet belong to a bunch of geckos. Cool, huh?

These feet are sticky. 20 or so years ago a lizard fell from our ceiling on to my mom’s chest. Her scream can be heard all throughout the Pacific Ocean..it was so hard to get the lizard as it stuck to her skin!! I remember that funny episode when I looked at your WW photo. :-)

I was just about to ask if those were all geckos. I recognized two of the feet as such. DH says that geckos are very common in Hawaii but we don’t see them here except for in pet stores.
Can you believe that the pet stores get away with charging folks money for a pest? In FL there were lizards running everywhere…here they’re in the pet store, called Anole and cost $7 each!
I tell DD just wait until we get to Nana’s house…then she wants to catch one. Good Luck! hee hee

A gecko’s feet “adhere” to surfaces by a weak intermolecular force call Van der Waals force. For Van der Waals force to be of any consequence the molecules between the two surfaces must be extremely close. A gecko’s foot has millions of hairs called setae. The millions of setae are not visible in the photo. The ends of his little setae divide into millions more setae. The surface area of each “sub” setae is so small that it is at near molecular size and will “adhere” to the molecules of whatever - anything other than Teflon.

Oh, I am just a treasure trove of information. Seriously someone just sent me this in the last week this obscure fact that I thought I would never do anything with. Imagine finding something to do with this fact. Just made my day!
