Mother’s Day Celebrations

We have 3 mothers in my family – my mom, my sister, and myself.
Every year we go through the same dilemma . . . how to celebrate Mother’s Day. We usually all spend it together but it’s so hard to agree on what to do.
My Mom is pretty flexible. She’s had over 40 Mother’s Day celebrations and all she really wants now is peace, quiet, and someone else to cook dinner.
My sister wants to go out for dinner in a somewhat nice restaurant. Since her kids are a little older now, they can pretty much entertain themselves.
Me? I want take-out from my favorite restaurant. It may sound a little boring but with Baby Bug still being very young, going out to dinner is not all it’s cracked up to be. Even though DH tries his best to help out, if I’m within a 100 foot radius, I’m the only one she wants. It’s hard to enjoy my special meal if all I’m doing is feeding and cleaning and carrying and entertaining The Bug. Getting take-out works for me — no cooking, no washing dishes, no crying babies.
What about you? What’s your ideal Mother’s Day celebration?

Honestly, my favorite thing for mothers day is just to do anything special.
I discovered your site recently from Gayla’s critique, so I was pleased to hear that you have now joined Gack Ink. I’ve only been there a little while, but already I’m really enjoying the interaction and collaborative support.

Hi, I came over from Amy’s scavenger hunt.
I think the ideal Mother’s Day for me would require no traveling (We always end up traveling to our mom’s, and it may sound selfish, but I wonder when it’s my turn?) and for me to be able to relax, and no kids fighting or whining!!!
Being with my kids & my mom. Anything is fine with me as long as I don’t have to do anything! A nice picnic (with DH taking care of everything) is nice.
We are going to my favorite teppanyaki restaurant here. Other than that, I just like a quiet, laidback day, maybe go to a movie. But since it’s “Bike Week” here and our town is being converged upon by 1000 bikers, we may have to do plan B for dinner and hide in the house.
My idea of a nice MD is relaxing all day but either having brunch or dinner OUT, and we always invite the MIL and pay for her meal. My MIL tried to pressure us into coming over for a roast or meat loaf because she is on a diet and doesn’t want to mess up her Weight Watchers points, I politely declined. I don’t want roast or meatloaf for mothers day, i can have that any day.
Besides, the point of Mother’s day IS not having to cook right?
Anyway, relaxing… a good meal out with family, and later in the evening watchin a movie.
I do hope you get your wish this year! The other ladies should understand with you still having a little one. It won’t be long until you can go out for dinner all together. Tomorrow my husband is cooking me and my mom a meal~the menu is a surprise, but I know it will be fantastic because he is a great cook!

We’re staying home this year and hubby is grilling steak for me. I’m also planning on no cleaning up too!!
Sleeping in and having time to myself, LOL. Which of course isn’t going to happen.
We don’t have a dinner tradition in our house, other than it involves my not cooking or cleaning. Our usual tradition here is breakfast in bed for me. What that entails is my going to church, then coming home and putting my pajamas back on and getting back into bed where I await whatever breakfast my hubby and the kids can manage to put together. Normally it’s scrambled eggs, toast, and a glass of milk.
Dinner will whatever – going out to a place I pick (family friendly) or getting take-out from someplace and coming back home to relax.
I’m with your Mom… peace, quiet, and someone else cooking sounds wonderful to me

A hug and a Happy Mother’s Day is good too. This year I was spoiled. Hubby sent me to Portland as an early Mother’s Day gift! 
I just want to know if you got take out for Mother’s Day?! LOL We did our big dinner the day before and enjoyed a quiet and low key Sunday at home. It was wonderful! Your post reminds me so much of the times and seasons elements in our lives. I’m reaching the point again when I can take my kids out more but they still have the best time (as does mom and dad) when they can just play at home. Hence take out from a good place is still #1 on my list with kids.

This may sound terrible, but I want to spend it by myself. If it’s my day then I want to do things I want to do.
I think a massage and a long nap sound like heaven. the only thing that would be better is waking up from my nap and having all the housework and laundry caught up on!

I hope you had a very relaxing Mother’s Day. Katelyn was so cute, she told me she’d get me a robot to help me vaccuum for Mother’s Day!
My Mother’s Day wish would have been, and it’s so hard my SIL had to go to her MIL, I went with my Mom,and my husband went with my MIL. I just wished we could ALL get together. Other than that I had the best Mother’s Day any mother could wish for!
There are 5 mothers in my family, my mom, 2 sisters, a SIL and me. So every single year, we end up cooking this Vnamese dish we dubbed “Vnamese pizza”, it’s more of a crepe with squid, shrimp, beef, bean sprouts and scallion. And you eat it with fish sauce.
It’s a big production b/c you have 5 hubbies and a bunch of kids around too. But it’s so tasty and we can all hang out at my house without having to deal with the expensive restaurant, and cranky kids.
But I told the clan that next year…we’re doing take out. Why do we mothers have to cook all the time. And I also told the fathers that for Father’s day, they have to do all the cooking themselves. Their idea is hot dog and burgers!
Hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day celebration. We spent the day visiting Yohan’s grandmothers and enjoying a nice lunch at a Japanese restaurant.
