Morning Sickness

If you haven’t already heard, I’m pregnant . . . again.
This came as a complete shock and was definitely the last thing that I ever expected. In fact, I haven’t had a period since the miscarriage but never in my wildest dreams thought this was the result. I swear I should be the poster girl for preventing teenage pregnancy because I am living proof that “all it takes is one time”.
So now I”m in my 8th week and the morning sickness is starting to hit. With both my daughters, the nausea was so bad that I couldn’t even function without my Zolfran (chemo medication). Back then, there were no generic brands so I had to pay $20 per pill and take them 1 every 8 hours! Yikes!
It’s not as bad this time around s0 I’m going to try and stay away from the medication. I find that if I usually eat something small or take a nap, then the morning sickness will subside. However, I’m looking for other suggestions.
What helped you with your morning sickness?

Altoids Sours really helped me, as well as sucking on mints all the time. There are a few teas that help w/ nausea (some geared esp. for pregnant women) that have herbs and things that calm the stomach.
Mine started at 5 weeks this pregnancy and lasted until about 15-16 weeks, so I can totally empathize!
Suck on Peppermint. It is a natural stomach relaxer and calmer!
I lived in it and never got sick….
So happy for you….
I was lucky and did not have morning sickness. You might try ginger. That is supposed to help.
Congratulations, Kailani! I’m so happy for you. And, I’m hoping the morning sickness will subside soon.

I had to take Unisom & vitamin B6. Made me very sleepy, but it did help. You can ask your doctor about it for the right dose.
Hands down, fresh ginger root. Put a slice into a cup of hot tea and you’ll feel so much better. I use ginger root every time I get the flu and it works like a charm. There’s a lot of positive research behind the soothing relief of ginger root.
I was a puker with all my pregnancies. Eating small meals of food that didn’t smell helped;). If my stomach was totally empty I threw up. Stay rested. When I got tired I started throwing up. I carried peppermints and gingersnaps. I also got some relief from b vitamins and 1/2 a Unisom at bed time.
Eating a lot of small snacks seemed to help me!
Hang in there!
I ate ginger snaps/ginger tea and comfort foods…..
I don’t recall anything helping with my morning sickness… except just waiting it out.
One thing that helped me emotionally was thinking about ALL THOSE WOMEN who said about their pregnancies “I never felt better than when I was pregnant.”
Then I would feel smug – and think, “Poor ladies, they have to be pregnant to feel better.”

I had the worst morning sickness with my first pregnancy..the second wasn’t as bad. The only thing that helped was to eat starchy things like crackers…and salty foods like Fritos! And don’t even get me into a car before noon!
Hope you have an easier time this go around!
I didn’t really have morning sickness, but I have heard good things about those pregnancy pops — little lollipops that are supposed to ward off nausea — and my earthy, crusty friends swear by pregnancy tea from the health store. Hope it eases up soon!
I’ve been on vacation, and I’m just now catching up. Congratulations! I hope this goes well. The morning sickness is awful, but it will be a distant memory soon.
Congratulations and prayers for a healthy, safe pregnancy!
I found that eating frequently helped and also drinking frozen/slushy lemonaid. Take care!
Congratulations! That is so great! The sickness however SUCKS! With my daughter I was pregnant 20 weeks of the 39 weeks of pregnancy. I too lived on Zofran and honestly , you sound like me, the only thing that helped was the zofran. And even then there was still nausea but I wasn’t throwing up. So I don’t have much advice.. just get a prescription quick! Good luck and I hope it isn’t as quesy as last times…
Sorry, I meant I was sick 20 weeks of the 39 weeks of pregnancy….oopsie!
ginger tea, vitamin b12 half tablets and the sea-band wristband for nausea. i hope home remedies helps you as well. congrats kailani!
i had terrible morning sickness from DAY ONE through the end of month six! i found that if i periodically ate a little bit and never let my stomach be completely empty that helped. i drank non-acidic fruit juice (grape or apple) before i even got out of bed and kept a supply of crackers everywhere – my nightstand, my purse, my car, my desk at work… and surprisingly, working out helped. no matter how bad i felt beforehand, it was the only time during the day i actually felt good and energized.
Congratulations to you! Awww..I’m happy for you. Sorry to hear you are not feeling well.
What worked for me, was saltine crackers and the organic gingerale in the glass bottle. They sell them in 6 packs.
Trying to remember the name. Look in the health food section. I drank it warm too…It felt good on my upset tummy.
Stay well,
Blessings.
Nothing helped me. But as a childbirth educator I suggest keeping something right next to your bed and nibbling before you even sit up. Almonds or crackers are good. Eat more protein throughout the day. Eat smaller meals, but more often. Get enough water. And anything peppermint or ginger. Those Sea Bands wrist bands work for some people.

congratulations! I’ve been off in my own world (literally!) so I hadn’t heard! Of course I hope the morning sickness isn’t so bad for you this time!
Ginger everything helped me. Ginger candy, ginger tea…I still don’t know if it’s a mental thing, or it really works, but it worked for me!
The other thing I would do is run my inner wrists under cold water if I was starting to feel ill.
Actually, that’s a good tip for you when you go back to work…if you have people that are feeling stomach sick on the plane, dab a little of that hand sanitizer on their inner wrists and tell them to blow on it. The cooling sensation counteracts the nausea.
it works like a charm!
hang in there, it’ll get better!
Just catching up on my reading and saw this post. Congratulations! I wish I had advice for morning sickness, but i didn’t really get it. The tiredness was a killer though, so I definitely understand you cutting back on blogging for a bit. This is really wonderful news. The girls must be so excited.
Take care of yourself.
