2008 Valentine’s Day Goody Swap

I love Valentine’s Day. Everything is so pink and red and flowery. I love candy and roses and romantic songs.

However, ever since having kids, DH and my views of this love day has changed. Candlelight dinners are replaced by kid-friendly restaurants with paper napkins and crayons. Expensive gifts have stepped aside for homemade cards and pictures. And even though I miss the formal celebrations, I wouldn’t change it for the world.

But that doesn’t mean I’m ready to give up the sweet treats that line the store shelves. And since I feel a little silly buying them for myself, I thought I’d organize another Valentine’s Day Goody Swap. Last year’s event was so much fun!

Here’s how it works:

  • If you’d like to participate, just leave a comment below letting me know that you’d like to participate and whether you prefer a U.S. partner or are open to anyone world-wide. Then add your link to the Mr. Linky. You have until January 31st to sign-up.
  • If you do sign-up, please make sure that you’re able to commit to participating. It’s kind of a bummer to send out a package and not receive one in return.
  • On February 1st, I’ll be announcing your swap partners so make sure I have your email address.
  • It is your responsibility to contact your partner and exchange mailing addresses. Please take some time to get to know each other. This is a great opportunity to make a new blogging friend!
  • In order to try and get to know each other better, I have posted a questionnaire in hopes we can learn a little more about you. You can post your answers on your blog or in comments.
  • Try to send out your packages asap to ensure that your partner gets theirs on/before Valentines Day.
  • You should try to spend somewhere between $8 – $10, not including shipping charges.
  • Once you’ve received your goodies, don’t forget to post pictures so we can all see what you got!
  • Have Fun!

Questionnaire:

  • What is your idea of a romantic Valentine’s Day?
    • A nice quiet dinner at any restaurant that doesn’t have a keiki (child) menu.
  • In reality, what is your Valentine’s Day really like?
    • Usually it’s take-out from Big City Diner. They have the best Guava Baby Back Ribs!
  • If you could have a lifetime supply of your favorite sweet indulgence, what would it be?
    • Definitely Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Those mini ones are dangerous because it’s so easy to just pop them in your mouth. I think I once ate half a bag in one sitting!
  • Is there any sweet treat you absolutely do not like?
    • Black liquorice, Red Hots, Conversation Hearts
  • If you fell into a pool of chocolate, how would you get out?
    • Well, since I can’t swim I would probably be in danger. But it’s a great way to go!

Any questions? Please feel free to contact me. You may also use this banner or the button located in the sidebar.

well, I’m probably not going to participate in this one (i want to, but we’re on a tight budget at the moment), but I had to leave you a comment! That “falling into a pool of chocolate” question took me straight back to my childhood! We used to listen to this old record of the Smothers Brothers and they had this monologue about what they would do if they fell into a vat of chocolate. One of them said they would yell “fire” and the other one asked why. The response was something along the lines of “well, if you yell “chocolate” no one is going to come running to help you, but if you yell “fire” you’ll probably get a response!”
I’m sure it’s way funnier in my memory than here in a comment, but thanks for making me remember!

Thank you for this fun activity! I would love to participate and make new blogging friends. I would like to ship in the U.S. only.

I will blog about the swap with answers to the questions, and also put my answers here!

    1. A picnic complete with blanket, basket and the whole nine yards!
    2. We make theme meals – last year everything was red (red meat, red beans, etc.), another year we had different types of fondues (meat, cheese and chocolate).
    3. Junior Mints – I don’t eat candy anymore, but if I did, it would definately be Junior Mints. (Check out my blog to see why I don’t eat candy).
    4. Conversation hearts and any gummy type candy.
    5. Forget getting out! I would float around and enjoy as much chocolate as possible. Let someone else figure out how to get me out!

Ooops . . . forgot to answer the questionnaire! Here goes:

What is your idea of a romantic Valentine’s Day? A nice meal @ home with the one I love. Sure wish I could find that person. :-D

In reality, what is your Valentine’s Day really like? Pretty boring & depressing, if I’m being honest. Since I don’t have that special someone in my life, it’s not really a holiday for me. :-(

If you could have a lifetime supply of your favorite sweet indulgence, what would it be? Without a doubt, it would be Reeses Peanut Butter cups and/or Dove Milk Chocolate. Of course, if I were going for expensive chocolate, it would definitely be Godiva! YUMMY!

Is there any sweet treat you absolutely do not like? I’m with Kailani on this one – I cannot stand liquorice, red hots or conversation hearts. I’m not a big fan of dark chocolate either.

If you fell into a pool of chocolate, how would you get out? Eat my way out, of course! :-P

My idea of a romantic Valentine’s Day is one that actually seems different than every other day! Maybe a day where I get to be pampered, then have a reason to dress up and go out for a fancy schmancy dinner without worrying about staying up too late.

In reality, my husband will forget it’s Valentine’s Day and I will have to cook dinner and clean up while I tell him it doesn’t matter, I didn’t really want anything, anyway.

I am pretty open to most sweet indulgences, unfortunately! But I love a good chocolately baked good… brownies, croissants, etc.

I am not a fan of hard candy, in general. They stick to my teeth and last way too long.

If I fell into a pool of chocolate, I would probably resign myself to my fate. Or maybe just do a backfloat until someone rescued me!

    Gudrun says:

Oh, this sounds so fun! I remember I did one of these back in 1994 from a cooking newsgroup. I had a great exchange with a woman in New Zealand and still have the recipe book she sent.

I am happy to participate with anyone, anywhere!

I really debated on whether or not to sign up; I had a blast doing this last year, but then when the spring/summer one came up, I was lax in getting out my package. The stuff is STILL sitting on my desk waiting to be packed and mailed!

So, yes, I’ll join, but I need a U.S. partner since I’m slow to mail internationally.

    1. Romantic dinner means: I don’t have to cook, clean, or have the children present.

    2. Valentines’ Day dinner is usually spent with the kids at a chain restaurant. In other words, just like any other time we eat out as a family.

    3. Lifetime supply of my favorite sweet: that would be Milk Chocolate Extra Creamy Droste Pastilles.

    4. Sweet treat I don’t like: anything made with Necco wafers (including conversation hearts), licorice, coconut.

    5. Why would I want to get out of a pool of chocolate? Pass the strawberries and champagne, please.

Count me in! I’ll take any swap partner! And to answer the questions:

    1. What is your idea of a romantic Valentine’s Day? Maybe some pampering, some alone time with my husband.

    2. In reality, what is your Valentine’s Day really like? Usually it’s just like any other day …..

    3. If you could have a lifetime supply of your favorite sweet indulgence, what would it be? I love most anything chocolate and peanut butter.

    4. Is there any sweet treat you absolutely do not like? Candy hearts aren’t usually my favorite, or liquorice.

    5. If you fell into a pool of chocolate, how would you get out? Get out? Are you kidding me?

I love your swaps :) The last one I did is how I got to “meet” Vader’s Mom.

As for a partner, I’ll partner with anyone – worldwide is fine. It’ll be fun.

I’ll answer the questionnaire on my blog – with a link to this one :)

Looking forward to this. I hope 2008 is treating you and your family well

What a great idea. Thank you for organizing this! I’d love to participate & will ship anywhere.

What is your idea of a romantic Valentine’s Day?
A nice quiet dinner with real food & a baby sitter at home watching the gremlin.

In reality, what is your Valentine’s Day really like?

Oh, does Valentine’s Day still exist? It’s usually spent at a kid friendly restaurant at 5 pm so we eat before munchkin goes insane.

If you could have a lifetime supply of your favorite sweet indulgence, what would it be?

100 Grands, Crunchies (UK candybar my grocery happens to stock), Hairbo Gummy Bears

Is there any sweet treat you absolutely do not like?

Black liquorice, Conversation Hearts, anything with peanut butter.

If you fell into a pool of chocolate, how would you get out?

Get out? I’d eat my way out.

    Hi there
I am new to blogging and card swaps. But so excited to join them. My hubby and ihave traveled from end of the country to the other on motorcycles. We are spending the next year in Alberta with family and I pass my time on my crafts.
I would so enjoy to fall in a vat of chocolate, I crave sweet stuff at night (explains the weight gain)
I really don’t like those hot cinamon hearts, good for the breath but of so hot.
I have been a little lazy on my blog but I have a few days off to get it caught up so here hoping.
looking forward to hearing from you.
