Kacie is at the age where she’s starting to learn about the concept of money. Unfortunately, she relates money to Mommy and thinks that we have an endless supply. I wish! So lately we’ve been having discussions about how money is earned and the proper way to handle it. That’s why the opportunity to review the Money Savvy Piggy Bank came at the perfect time.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Personal finance education needs to start young. How? With the same universally loved childhood toy, the piggy bank….but with a 21st century twist! The Money Savvy Pig piggy bank has four chambers, one for each of the four money management choices a child should be taught from the time they are small. They are SAVE, SPEND, DONATE, and INVEST.
OUR REVIEW
When our Money Savvy Piggy Bank arrived, Kacie couldn’t wait to try it out. In fact, the first thing she did was name it Rosetta. She liked that she was able to select which stickers went with the different categories: Save, Spend, Donate, & Invest. This made the piggy much more personal for her. She also liked that the piggy was translucent. This allowed her to see exactly what level her money was at. It really gave her an incentive to fill up “Rosetta” by searching the house for loose change.
What I like about Money Savvy Piggy Bank is that it allowed me the opportunity to talk to Kacie about the value of money. I had never thought to include “Invest” in our conversations but now she has the basic understanding of the concept. I also like that it’s made of plastic and not glass or ceramic. With traditional “breakable” piggy banks, I’m always afraid of the girls handling them and accidentally dropping it. Can you imagine? Glass and money everywhere! Yikes!
However, the best part of Money Savvy Piggy Bank is the sense of control it gives Kacie. She’s at the age where she’s fighting for more independence and “Rosetta” lets her make her own decisions when it comes to money. It’s a great way to teach a valuable lesson! And guess what? When I took a look at her piggy bank, most of her money was in the “save” section. I guess she listened to me after all!
