I’m so glad that my girls love books. Since they were babies, we would try to read at least one book together at bedtime. It’s the time of day that we all look forward to and will miss when I go back to work in January. That’s why I was very interested in finding out more about Hallmark’s Recordable Storybooks.

The Recordable Storybooks feature voice capture technology that records the reader’s voice directly into the book. When a child turns a page, the book automatically plays the text in the reader’s voice. In addition to making a great keepsake, the Recordable Storybook may be useful for parents in the military, parents on the road for work or grandparents, aunts and uncles who are miles away from a child during the holidays.

frostyWe had the opportunity to review Frosty the Snowman and loved it! When the girls first opened up the book and heard my voice as the narrator, they had a confused look on their faces. They knew it sounded like me but couldn’t figure out how my voice got into the book. It was pretty funny. Now, they listen to the book over and over again and follow along with the words.

What I liked about this book is how easy it was to set-up. I just opened up the book to the page I wanted to record, pushed the record button, and started talking. When I was done, I just pressed “stop” and it automatically played back my recording. When I was satisfied, I continued on to the next page. The cool part is that you don’t have to listen to the whole recorded page. Once you turn to the next page, the narration stops.

I was a little concerned about the record button being visible on the bottom of the book. However, I learned that there’s a switch on the inside that is accessible only by unscrewing the plate. Once you flip that save switch, the kids won’t be able to record over yours. This is a good thing because we all know how kids love to push buttons.

The best part is that the girls can still have their bedtime story even when I’m at work. As much as I would love to be there to read to them in person, this is definitely the next best thing.
