Verizon Wireless Palm Pre Plus: On-The-Go

Cellular phones have come a long way. Not only do they allow you to make phone calls while on the road but now you can do so much more. With the Palm Pre Plus web browser you can search for destinations & activities, add it to your calendar, and even get directions on how to get there using GPS navigation.
This weekend the girls and I had a 1st baby’s birthday party to attend in Foster Village and since I’ve never been to this venue before I was a little worried about driving there without DH (he had to work). Then I remembered all the features the Palm Pre Plus has to offer.
First, I did a web search for the birthday location. Once I was able to get it’s address, I plugged it into the Google Maps application which mapped out the quickest route there. The cool thing is that not only did it give me the turn-by-turn directions, but it also showed a map of the route, the number of miles between locations, and how long it would take to get there by car, bus, or by walking.
I could even select which view I’d like: turn-by-turn directions, map, or satelite.
I then used the information and placed the event into my calendar to make sure I remembered to block the date. You would think I could remember something so important but lately I’ve been so busy that I find myself forgetting even the simplist things like where I put my car keys, if I fed the cats, and even if I took a shower that day.
And if that wasn’t enough, on the way home I noticed that I needed to get some gas and I was able to use the VZ Navigation application ($9.99) to scout the area for the nearest gas station. It will also give you restaurant options and other areas of interest. This would come in very handy when you’re on vacation or if you’re in an area you’re not familiar with.
Getting the family out of the house has never been easier!
This post was written for Verizon Wireless who provided the complimentary phone and service in exchange for my honest review.

My phone has Google Maps also and I find it very useful. My sense of direction is awful so it helps to have a backup plan for when I get lost!
Apparently Google are working on an app which includes spoken directions like you would get with a sat Nav so that will be even more useful.

I totally LOVE Google Maps! Hubby and I would get lost lots of times if it weren’t for that App.
or they just had new roads that Google didn’t know about.
The only time we had a problem with it was when we were trying to use it at Fort Benning in Georgia when my son graduated from basic training. I don’t know if there is some kind of blocking software there – which would make sense at an Army Base
