During the summer I would often hear my boys argue that one was Optimus Prime and the other was Megatron. I had no idea what they were talking about so I often let them be and thought it was boys using their imagination. Little did I know that these names were characters from a cartoon show. Imagine my surprise when we received Transformers Prime: One Shall Stand and the names of these characters were included. Hmmmm….where have I been?!!

Since acquiring Dark Energon, the DECEPTICON leader MEGATRON has worked tirelessly to uncover its secrets in an effort to finally wield its great power! Now it’s up to the heroic leader of the AUTOBOTS, OPTIMUS PRIME, to stop his old nemesis once and for all, no matter what the cost. But Optimus Prime will not only face Megatron in this ultimate rematch, but rise to the challenge of defeating an even greater foe – UNICRON, whose power threatens the existence of humankind. With many dramatic surprises throughout this epic story arc, numerous questions will be faced, but none more important than these: Who is Optimus Prime? And can the Autobots’ true key salvation lie in the trusted hands of a teenage boy named Jack?

Originally broadcast as seven episodes that spanned the first two seasons of the Emmy® Award-winning series, One Shall Stand is presented here as an uninterrupted movie featuring the voice talents of returning Transformers legends Peter Cullen and Frank Welker alongside a superstar cast including Adam Baldwin (Chuck), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), John Noble (Fringe), Gina Torres (Firefly) and Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator)! My boys were so excited to watch the dvd that we decided to have a family movie night and watch it together. With our popcorn and arare ready, the dvd went in and then there was silence. My boys stopped their excited chattering and began watching the show so intently. My daughter and I, on the other hand, needed to ask them a lot of questions since we were watching it for the very first time. Needless to say, the boys were quite frustrated with us.

We learned that the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime live on Earth with their friends Jack, Raphael, and Miko who are children. They are also friends with Special Agent Fowler who works for the US Federal Government. There’s a special bond between the Autobots and the children that it is often mentioned throughout the show by Optimus Prime that no harm can come to any humans.

You may be wondering who the Autobots are. We certainly did. Well, it includes Optimus Prime, Arcee, Bumblebee, Ratchet, and Bulkhead. They are all able to transform into different modes of transportation such as a motorcycle, military vehicle, sports, car, and truck. Even Megatron transforms into a jet. All this makes for a very exciting and action filled show.

In Transformers Prime: One Shall Stand, Optimus Prime and Megatron put their differences aside for a moment to together conquer Unicron. Due to a planetary alignment, Unicron began waking up which caused Earth to experience numerous natural disasters at the same time. They learn that Earth was created around Unicron so if Unicron is not destroyed Earth would perish. It is during this show, we learn many things such as Optimus Prime and Megatron were once friends before becoming sworn enemies. Also, Optimus Prime who is the last Prime was not born into a Prime. It was bestowed upon him. This is what led to the conflict with Megatron because he wanted to be a Prime. Before becoming Optimus Prime he was Orion Pax who worked in the library. Optimus Prime and Megatron defeat Unicron; however Optimus Prime loses his memory and reverts back to being Orion Pax. It is this occurrence which Megatron uses to trick Orion Pax into believing they are still friends and the Autobots are their enemy. To help Orion Pax become Optimus Prime again Jack and Arcee go back to Cybertron, the Autobots home planet. To find out what happens, you need to watch the dvd.

I could actually go on and on about the show, but decided to scale it back. As you can probably guess, my daughter and I really enjoyed the show. In fact, it was soon realized that we were all quiet and intently watching the show. We had a wonderful family movie night which we will always remember!
