Swanson Broth for Your Recipes

January is Swanson National Soup month and I know that by the time this gets published, January is nearly or already over, but if you live in a cold portion of the continent like I do, every winter month could be National Soup Month!
Swanson Broth products are a staple to have on hand to use in recipes or just for eating as soup by themselves.
Swanson Broth includes Chicken Broth, Beef Broth, Vegetable Broth, Natural Goodness® Chicken Broth, Lower Sodium Beef Broth, Certified Organic Chicken Broth, Certified Organic Beef Broth and Certified Organic Vegetable Broth varieties.
I really like the carton that the broth is packaged in. If you don’t need to use it all, you can store it in the fridge for later use. Much handier than using it from a can. I did find that while I was pouring, it ran down the side of the carton, but that could have been user error lol!
We were able to try out a couple of recipes in our home using a few different Swanson’s Broths.

Using the Lower Sodium Beef Broth which is 99% fat-free, I made the Smothered Pork Chops.
Smothered Pork Chops
(Recipe from Swanson Broth Website)Prep: 5 minutes                                Â
Cook: 25 minutesServes: 6
Ingredients:
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 3/4 cups Swanson® Beef Stock
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Vegetable cooking spray
6 bone-in pork chops, 1/2-inch thick (about 1 1/2 pounds)
1 medium onion, sliced (about 1 cup)Directions:
Stir the cornstarch, stock and black pepper in a small bowl until the mixture is smooth.
Spray a 10-inch skillet with the cooking spray and heat over medium-high heat for 1 minute. Add the pork and cook until it’s well browned on both sides. Remove the pork from the skillet. Remove the skillet from the heat.
Spray the skillet with the cooking spray and heat over medium heat for 1 minute. Add the onion and cook until it’s tender-crisp.
Stir in the cornstarch mixture. Cook and stir until the mixture boils and thickens. Return the pork to the skillet. Reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until the pork is cooked through.
My family really enjoyed that recipe. My husband commented on that it wasn’t as salty as most of the soups I cook with, but was still very flavorful. My daughter liked that the meat stayed moist and didn’t dry out.
I also made the Greek Meatball Soup with the 100% Natural Chicken Broth, which also is 99% fat free and it has no MSG added. This was a completely different taste for our family, and something I wouldn’t normally have made. I found with a few tweaks for us (the recipe has dill in it, which isn’t a tongue pleaser around here), it could become an often consumed meal during the winter months.
There are a lot of great recipes on the Swanson website, go check it out.  Step out of your “recipe box†and try something new like I did. You may be surprise yourself and find a new favorite dish!
