Review of Roman Town archaeology PC game

I love PC games.  I don’t know why – I just do.  It’s been about two years that I’ve been into the hidden object and dash style, but I also love the ones that have you doing stuff, like solving mysteries by gathering objects and doing something with them.  However, I get stumped (and frustrated) very easily.  So Roman Town was right up my alley.

Roman Town is a computer game based on the idea of an archaeological dig.  You have a professor telling you what to do at first, as a kind of tutorial.  First you must place diggers using different implements.  When they unearth something, you take over by gently “brushing” away dirt.

Once all of the artifacts from a site have been unearthed, you will sort them into different categories and then do things with them.  For example, you might put together all the pieces of a vase that was found in pieces.

Amongst all of this, you are learning about Rome and its history and culture.  You’ll find out that one object (once reassembled) is comparable to a lamp in today’s world.

Also, after all the objects are found at one site, you will meet a brother and sister who are somehow attached to the objects and are from Roman time – as in ghosts.  Honestly, at first this was a little freaky, but maybe it was just my state of mind that day.  The kids serve the purpose of talking about what their life was like in ancient Rome and telling us about the objects they used.

Yes, Roman Town is designed for children, but don’t let that dissuade you.  As a parent, you should have fun playing along with your child.   I know I had a blast with this and really had to peel myself away from the computer.  While my kids are a bit young for this, I think I’m going to give this to my 7 year old nephew to see what he thinks about this.

Roman Town can be bought here as a CD, download and for a classroom full of students.

This product was sent to me in order to conduct a review.  This did not influence my opinion in any way.  All thoughts are 100% my own.
