Chicken Soup for the Soul – The Story Behind the Song

songYou are probably familiar with the Chicken Soup for the Soul books. I have always enjoyed reading the inspirational stories that are found in this line of books. I recently had the chance to review one of their latest editions called, Chicken Soup for the Soul, The Story Behind the Song (The Exclusive Personal Stories Behind 101 of Your Favorite Songs). What I loved about this book, is that the actual songwriters are the ones who tell the stories of how their famous songs were written. Being a big music fan, it’s so interesting to me to get the artist’s perspective on how their song lyrics came about and/or what the lyrics mean to them.

There’s a variety of different genres of songs and just about every one of them was familiar to me. Here’s a small sampling of songs and songwriters that are included in this book:

Wouldn’t It Be Nice – Tony Asher
When I Said I Do – Clint Black
Don’t Fall In Love With A Dreamer – Kim Carnes
What The World Needs Now Is Love – Hal David
Sara Smile – Daryl Hall
Sister Christian – Kelly Keagy
The Heart of Rock n’ Roll – Huey Lewis
Right Here Waiting – Richard Marx
Love Remains The Same – Gavin Rossdale
Livin’ On A Prayer – Richie Sambora
Blurry – Wes Scantlin
Jessie’s Girl – Rick Springfield
If The World Had A Front Porch – Tracy Lawrence

If you are someone who enjoys music, you should definitely check out this book. It’s a quick and easy read and perfect for those times that you only have a few minutes here and there to devote to reading. Most of the stories are only around two or three pages in length, so you can complete several of them in one brief sitting.

This sounds like a really cool book… I’d love to know the story behind some of these songs. I’ve always wondered about a lot of songs and it would be great to know. Plus I love the Chicken Soup series.
    Thanks for the review.
