Bill Engvall – Aged and Confused DVD

I’ve written about Bill Engvall before, and how much my family enjoys his “nice guy†sense of humor and down-to-earth persona. In fact, I’ve written about Bill Engvall’s new comedy CD Aged and Confused before, so of course I agreed to review the new Aged and Confused DVD counterpart as well. This was partly due to the fact that there were three parts on the Aged and Confused CD that were visually delivered, and left my husband and I guessing as to what was happening on stage at the time of the audience outburst.
It turns out that Bill Engvall is even more likable in person, and the jokes even funnier. Shot at the 2009 Just for Laughs Chicago Festival, Bill Engvall seems right at home on stage, telling his sometimes rambling and tangent-laden jokes about his experiences as a 50 year old + and how his age is beginning to affect the way in which he views the world. Again, I am going to stress that I am really not the target of a CD called “Aged and Confusedâ€, and some of the jokes made me cringe more than they had me laughing out loud, but all was quickly forgotten when he would launch into one of his famous stories that had you laughing right along with him. It’s in his true-life stories that he really shines; the stories he tells that have you shaking your head and praying for a different ending all up until he delivers the final line.
My mom, in particular, thought the DVD was hilarious as well as some of my aunts who watched the comedy routine with me. And really, Bill Engvall is just about the only comedian who I would dare watch with my extended relatives. His jokes are substantially cleaner and less profane than most of the other really famous comedians out there, and his humor a bit more universal. Where many comics these days pride themselves on their offensive and very un-PC routines, Bill Engvall’s comedy seems very scrubbed and clean in comparison. His act seems like more of what you see in classic TV humor with the delivery being sometimes funnier than the actual punchline, and it’s because of that which makes his work so relatable and him such a likable star.
And he most definitely is likable. To be honest, I tend to like my comedy with a bit of unpredictability and zing, and sometimes a little bit blue, but even I can appreciate a comic who does what Bill Engvall does and speak to the masses. I would highly recommend Bill Engvall’s Aged and Confused for the comedy fan that likes to watch in groups, someone who is just getting interested in comedy, or fans on the older age spectrum. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this is precisely who the target audience is on Aged and Confused, and why he has been one of the biggest comedy names for years and yet still continues to sell out performances nationwide.

I really like Bill Engvall because I swear sometimes I think he has been watching MY family. I also, like you, like the fact that he doesn’t rely on vulgarity or dirty words. He can be clean and funny. I feel bad for his poor wife, as she is the butt of several of his jokes.
