New York, New York

December 28, 2006

It’s always been my dream to go to New York, especially during the holidays. DH said we could go next year if I wanted to but I think Baby Bug will still be too young to travel so far. I stress when we take her on a 20 minute flight to Maui! LOL!

For now I’ll have to live vicariously through my renter, New York Nitty-Gritty. Otilius’s Photoblog is ranked #1 at Blog Explosion, and I can see why. The great thing about it is you get to see New York through the eyes of someone who’s actually lived there for the last 13 years. The photos are interesting, artistic, thought-provoking, and sometimes very moving. When they say “A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words”, I think they were talking about New York Nitty-Gritty.

Check it out by clicking on his thumbnail in the sidebar. You won’t regret it!

I’ve found that it’s actually EASIER to travel with babies than it is to travel with older children. Of course DD is pretty easy either way… but on our flights to S. Korea she was an angel. Now she’s an old pro at flying.

GO FOR IT! You will absolutely love it. We went when my son was 2 and it was a blast. It is such a fun city - definitely at the top of our favorite places to go to. ;o)

What time of the year did you go?

Isn’t that something about you guys getting stressed flying with baby bug…

you should know all the tricks?????

We do know some tricks but sometimes the kids have a mind of their own! LOL! Besides, I would be so embarrassed if my kids misbehaved in front of my co-workers!

Sorry, gotta say NY during the holidays is just overrated. Of course, Philly has nothing to compare to it, but I digress.

Well how are the girls on the trip to Maui? That should give you some idea of what it might be like to go somewhere on the mainland.
I always pack a bag of stuff that’s fun to do that she hasn’t seen in a while. For GG, I would suggest a nice thick coloring book with lots of puzzles in it that she can do with you or DH. For BB it’s tougher, but something that keeps her happy for a good long time and lots of snacks for both.
If regulations allow, bring water for both. Sucking on something helps with the ear pressure. My DD & I have a real problem with our ears.

They were totally fine going to Maui but that was only a 20 minute flight. NYC from Hawaii will probably be over 10 hours. Yikes! I’m not too worried about GG since she can entertain herself. BB on the other hand just started getting really good at walking and refuses to sit still. We can bring on our own water but it has to be purchased in the terminal after going through security.

I’m not a NYC fan — went once for my SIL’s wedding, and it didn’t impress me much. Me, I’m a Chicago fan — love the city but hate the weather.

I hope you get to go to NYC sometime.

Was there anything in particular that you didn’t care for?

I didn’t really care for NYC in general; I found it to be big and dirty and noisy. I love cities, really I do. I live in a large metro area myself, but when it comes to visiting cities, I prefer Seattle, San Francisco, or Chicago. To me they just seem more accessible and intimate. I can’t really describe it.

I’m just weird, so don’t listen to me! Lots of people adore NYC, and I’m sure if you go, you’ll love it too.
