A little while ago, my neighbor knocked on my door and told me his house had been robbed. Since our living room window faces his house, he wondered if we had seen anything suspicious. Unfortunately, we hadn’t.
Someone must have been watching the house since it happened after the wife left for the store and before the husband came home from work. All within a 60 minute time frame. Apparently, they had gotten in through their living room window and took mostly electronic items including iPods, a Wii, stereos, and a laptop. The thieves were pretty brazen considering we live in a high traffic area with cars constantly driving by and guest parking right across the street. Ironically, there was a Neighborhood Security Watch meeting going on at the time. What are the chances of that?
Even though we live in a semi-rough area, I never felt unsafe in my home. However, with DH gone on a trip, I immediately locked all the doors and windows knowing full well that the chances of something also happening to my family were slim to none.
However, now it’s got me thinking. If someone really wanted to break into our home, it wouldn’t be hard to stake our place out. Guest parking is nearby with a clear view of our home. All you had to do was sit in your car, watch us come out with our flight attendant uniform on, and know that we’d be gone for a few days. Kind of scary.
I think I’m going to be a little more careful from now on.
