The Best Job in the World

Do you like your job?

The airlines I work for recently hired a whole bunch of new flight attendants, and boy, are they eager to work! In fact, they’re giving up their days off just so that they can pick up extra trips. Talk about loving your job!

I don’t blame them, I love my job, too. I don’t know if I’d go so far as to volunteer my days off but I do enjoy the time that I’m there.

Afterall, what’s not to love? I get paid to travel and while I’m hanging out on my layovers, we stay in some of the nicest hotels, we don’t really have a “boss” looking over our shoulders, and with seniority I can pretty much make my own schedules.

However, as you all know, I have also gone through some pretty strange things, too. Remember the man who whipped “it” out and pee’d in the aisle? Or when a passenger threw food at me? Or the naked man on DH’s flight? Not to mention all the medical emergencies, unruly passengers, and getting stuck far away from home during the holidays while passengers rioted in the terminal.

It’s strange because I never wanted to be a flight attendant in the first place. My boyfriend at the time wanted to apply for the job but didn’t want to go by himself. I was currently the Employment Manager at a 5-star hotel and thought it would be interesting to see how other companies conduct their hiring process, so I agreed to go along. To make a long story short, I got offered the job and he didn’t. I even initially turned it down!

I wonder what my life would be like today had I not changed my mind?

So tell me, do you like your job now? If not, what would your ideal job be?

I like my current job much more than any other job I’ve ever had. ;)

My “job” as a mom is not what I do, it is what I am.

What I “do” is write and sing, and yes, I get paid occasionally to do them. I love what I “do” and I love what I “am” as well.

Mostly, I’m just a girl who is a mom who sings and writes.

Growing up, my “ideal” job was to be a teacher. A year or so after the birth of my oldest I was all set to head back to school to complete this mission. Until a very wise person reminded me that being a mom, was also being a teacher. She wasn’t kidding. And I have gotten more satisfaction from that than I could have ever dreamed.

This whole wife gig though? I’m ready to retire.

LOL find me one first and then I will let you know about how I like it.

I have always thought about being in flying, except for the fact that I still have this unhealthy fear of it occaisonally. That may not make it a good job for me eh?

** Before I was a flight attendant, I used to be afraid of flying. Not to mention I’m claustophobic (sp?) and get motion sickness! LOL!

Would you have met your husband if you hadn’t taken the job? Just curious. It’s kind of strange to think about what might have been…I still haven’t figured out what I want to be when I grow up!

Probably not. I was out with some work friends the night we met.

Eh, my job’s my job. I like my job when I get to do my actual job - and not deal with all the corporate crap. :) I freelance write articles, and that keeps my creative juices flowing.

My dream job would be a famous novelist. Or a cake decorator. :)

    My Hawaii pics are up.

I’m a Nanny, I love my job because my son gets to come with me. I wish I could stay at home with just him, but i’m bleesed that he gets to interact with other kids. When he starts school, I want to go back to school and get my Masters.

I love my job, but it’s because I changed careers. I went to school for Interior Design and that’s what I did for 12 years. I travelled all over to design model homes and I just grew to hate it! I was lucky if I was home one week out of every month. It was impossible to have a relationship or even have friends outside of work. When I met my husband I realized I wanted to be home more and have a family. With my husband’s help I started my dream business of owning a used bookstore. Best best thing I ever did! Well and being a mom too!

I love my job now that I don’t have one! :) My brother is a flight attendant and although he’s had weirdos he has never had anyone “whip it out”! His 8 yr old son loves to go to “work” with him whenever possible.

I used to really like my job. And some days I still do, but sadly those days are getting fewer and farther between. I like my office mate, though… my trusty guard dog Elsa :-p

I liked my job, working in CA at a resort, in all of the restaurants on property. I met people from all over the world. After my son was diagnosed, I don’t have the patience to deal with customers.
My dream job, would be a travel agent who booked cruises and tours.

Unfortunately, I am now unemployed. But if I could do it over again, I’d do what you’re doing now. My past employments were good and paid good, and I did meet alot of strange people. It was fun, but I would love to work for Hawaiian Airlines. Which one are you with?

When I was in HS, I wanted to be a flight attendant when I grew up. And I thought you have to be really pretty, like models. But when I started to take trips here and there…I noticed that wasn’t the case. I’d love to be in your shoes for the day to see how the job goes.

As for a dream job? I also wanted to be a fashion designer, but not much an artist. So maybe that would be my dream job.

** I think the requirements have changed over the years. I remember a long time ago, some airlines required you to be single and childless. Can you believe that?

I always thought I wanted to just be a wife and mother. Then I ended up having a great career instead. I loved that career, but had to give it up. Now I’m a full-time wife and mother, and some days, it’s a toss-up. No, really, most of the time, I’m glad I’ve had both and that I’m now able to mold a brilliant little mind full time. If only I could figure out how to potty train other parts of him!

I wish I could find a job that I loved. I am still trying to figure it all out and it stinks. Your job sounds fun! Or at least entertaining…whipping stuff out would be…err…interesting.

To say the least! LOL! Try walking in on an 80 year old man squatting on the toilet because he forgot to lock the lavatory door. Now there’s an image I’d rather forget! LOL!

Aloha, I am trying to get in with Hawaiian Airlines. I was told to go thru the internet to apply, but there is nothing available for flight attendant. Any special hints??
    Aloha, Anne

I’ve heard that they hired a whole bunch of flight attendants recently. If I hear that they’re hiring more, I’ll let you know. The best thing is to probably check on their website periodically.
