Stuck in Traffic

Today I took Girlie Girl to her swimming class afterschool where she goes 3 times a week. Even though there are other places that I’d rather be than sitting by the pool in 90 degree heat trying to occupy Baby Bug, I know that this will pay off in the long run.

On the way home, there was a 5 car accident on the freeway which tied up traffic for miles. Since I had my iPod plugged into the car stereo, I didn’t know about the accident until I was totally stuck in it. What should have been a 20 minute ride home turned out to be 90 minutes. Yikes!

Since both girls had fallen asleep as soon as they sat in their car seats and the a/c hit them, I had no one but the iPod to keep me company.

That’s when I thought . . . if I could have anyone here to keep me company, who would it be?

I would have to say my sister. Even though we fought like cats and dogs while growing up, we’ve grown very close over the years. Whenever something good or bad happens in my life, she’s the first person I think of calling. We even seem to think alike to the point where it’s sometimes scary. There were times when we went shopping at the same store and just missed each other, or we had the same thing for lunch even though we were not together, or we wore the same outfit when we dropped off our kids at school (now that was embarrassing). Sometimes I wonder if we were twins separated at birth!

What about you? Who would you like to be stuck in traffic with?

I would have to pick my sister too! Same like you guys we used to fight like crazy and now not even the Pacific Ocean cant keep us apart! Sorry you were stuck in traffic! I hope no one was hurt badly!

  2. my best friend. I love spending time with her and talking to her. She and I are so much alike it is scary sometimes.

  3. That depends on if the windows are tinted or mirrored.
    Sincerely,
    A Kamaiana stuck in Afghanistan

  4. Katja says:

    I would pick my husband.

  5. Renee says:

I would pick my best buddies…Jen & Sara (together or separately). They’re both a hoot and we get along so well. they would keep me totally occupied.

  6. Stacey says:

That’s a great tribute to your sister, I felt the exact same way about my sister Jamee. Even though I cannot physically talk to her again, I still turn to her in my life’s struggles and find comfort knowing what she’d likely tell me.

  7. Karen says:

Johnny Depp! (as Capt Jack, of course!)

    ;)

  8. It would be my hubby or cindyu. I can enjoy silence or hours of chatting with either one and not grow weary!

Yeah for sisters, with 2 years between my sister and I, we were sworn enemies for 15 years. Now she is my best bud. We always feel guilty though because we have a younger sister, and while we love her dearly we don’t feel the bond with her that the 2 of us share.

Although in a traffic jam, I just want to be alone….esp if the kids are snoozing.

    Hi Kailani!

    It’s Jill from Coo-Coo. I’m at a new home: http://charmingdelightful.blogspot.com/

I think if I could be stuck in the car with anyone it would be my friend Vas. We can make each other laugh so hard and even when we haven’t seen each other or talked in months, we always pick up where we left off, like no time has passed!

Your story about your sister reminds me of my mom and one of her sisters. They often send the same birthday cards to people or respond to emails with the same exact comment. We like to tease them and say they must share a brain :-)

  11. Hhmm, definitely not my husband, though he’s resourceful, we tend to get impatient with each other in situations like that.

I’d have to say my mom. She’s the most patient, fun, optimistic person I know. And given her personality, she’d make up a fun game or even pull out some snacks from her purse, lol. She never ceases to amaze me.

  12. Melissa says:

Hmm… that’s a good question. Probably one of my girl friends… just someone to chat with, but if it got quiet, that would be okay too :)

  13. wendy says:

Probably my friend Angi. We have been friends since kindergarten. We know everything about each other. We know each other’s secrets, we know each other’s funny stories, we know all about each other’s spouses and children. We have taken several road trips together and they are always entertaining. Wouldn’t matter if we were going 65 or standing still on the road we would entertain each other. That is what I miss most about home besides family, not being able to run out to Target or to dinner with my friends.

I could be stuck with Hubby, any of my three Sister’s, my Mom or my best Girlfriend. All of them can keep on chatting all through the traffic and make you feel like you weren’t stuck.

My bridesmaid and friend Lorrie. We have never had a bad time together!

  16. Shawna says:

I would like to be stuck in traffic with my friend Stacy (Vader’s Mom) because we never see each other. She lives in a different state, and even though we went to college together, we weren’t friends until after she moved with her hubby (who is friends with my hubby).

I think I would also pick my cousin LeChelle cause we like to go crazy together and act like teenagers, rolling the windows down, blaring the music, and singing at the top of our lungs.

  17. Maribeth says:

You know I would love to be stuck in traffic with my daughter Katie. She died when she was 6 1/2 and I would give the world for just a few more moments with her….

  18. What a fun twist on a not so fun event. My pick would be hubby. How’s GGirl doing in the swim classes? My kids have self taught with our pool and they just amaze me. Kids are just plain amazing. Me, I still have to have help getting everything plugged before I’ll go under!

    Hugs,
    Holly

  19. Ma says:

Howzit, Sistah! Long time no see.

I think I would pick my brother, Bo. Since my husband is no longer on this earth. My brother is my best friend and we have a special bond. And he would certainly keep me entertained.

Haven’t been on this computer much since I got back home. Been so busy with the family. Take care and lots of aloha.

  20. Christine says:

I’d love to be stuck in traffic with my Dad. Just to enjoy his company and to have one more conversation with him. It’s been ten years since he passed away and the feeling of loss has never really gone away!

  21. tracey says:

definitely my husband. But my sisters would be fine, too. Or my mom…

  22. Dana says:

Hmm…well, being creative here..I woudl like to be stuck in traffic with someone that I had just started to date that I really liked…that would give us some really good talking time without distraction.
Secondly, I would like to have my friends Jana and Chris (college buds) as we always have a hoot when we all get together. We’d have tons to talk about. It woudl give us time to catch up as we are all always too busy.

  23. Sparky Duck says:

The only problem with the Ipod is the fact that it does not give you emergency information like traffic.

I would say Tony Kornheiser, since I listen to him everyday on a podcast. All of my family, including the wife are horrible in traffic. Oh, or Lea Salonga, she could just sing.

  24. Sparky’s a bit Lea Salonga-centered these days, ever since Les Miz. Can’t blame him, though.

I’ve read this post several times, and I’ve never commented because I couldn’t come up with an answer right away. I blame the fact that I’ve been feeling…not right of late. Anyway, I have an answer now.

    Bono.

Yup, the Man Himself. He’d do all of the talking, natch – all I would have to do is listen.

  26. That’s a tough one. I hate hate hate traffic. I usually pull off at the next exit or street and sit on the side of the road playing Monopoly on cell phone and wait. LOL I think I am going to say my Little Brother. He and I can talk about nothing but still keep each other laughing our tails off.

I have something for you over at my blog, so be sure to check it out :D

  27. YellowRose says:

I’d have to say my husband. He’s my best friend…( I know too mushy lol), but it’s true! :)
Plus the man can find a way out of a traffic jam like no one I know!! lol

  28. Mary says:

I love this post… it’s weird the near misses and similarities!

My husband, most likely… we always keep each other laughing. Or my brother Ben for the same reason.

  29. donetta says:

Hello, I’m new here via Christine at “are we there yet.

My sister leaves tomorrow to move across to the other end of the U.S. This has been the closes we have ever been to each other in our lives and I feel grateful.
I think that if I were stuck in my car for 90 minutes. I would most love to be reflective and speak with my best friend and maker. I would debrief and enjoy the quiet. I think being alone with Him for a few minutes would be healthy for me today. I’m a listener and most times I hear and am not heard so as to support, it would be great just to be lisend too.

Hi Kailani! I’m back to reading my favorite bloggers after a 2 wks hiatus…you know, this child birth thing got in the way.

I too have the same relationship with my sisters. We talk every single day, even though we fight like cats and dogs.

And that is a good question, I have to say if I were stuck in traffic…I’d have my sisters too.

  31. jenn says:

My best friend jess is the obvious choice. We’re so close that she is pretty much my sister. Even my family has adopted her.

We can talk about everything and nothing all day long.
