Post Updates

May 1, 2008

There have been a few questions regarding some of my latest posts so I thought I’d take this opportunity to answer them.

What is Hurricane Popcorn? Hurricane Popcorn originated in Hawaii and consists of buttered popcorn with arare (rice crackers) & furikaki (seaweed). Yes, I realize it may not sound appetizing but once you try it, you’ll love it!

What are the current gas prices in Hawaii? On Oahu it’s $3.73 & $4.21 on Maui. Yikes! And yes, since we live on an island, you may be wondering just how far we can really drive. I think it’s more the issue of sitting in traffic rather than the distance of the commute. For example, when I take Girlie Girl to piano class, I spend a total of 2 hours in traffic for a 30 minute class. *sigh*

In regards to First Class Baby, how did the crew feel about the situation? A majority of the flight attendants, including myself, felt that babies should be allowed to sit anywhere on the plane. They have the same rights as anyone else and just because you pay more for your ticket, it doesn’t give you the right to dictate who sits near you.

To Quit or Not to Quit: We decided to let Girlie Girl stop taking her Hip Hop class even though she was the one who begged us to let her join in the first place. Money is not an issue since tuition is paid monthly, however, the next time she decides to participate in an activity it’s with the understanding that it comes with a 1-year commitment.

Thank you for all your advice and opinions!

While I think we shouldn’t push our kids to do what they really don’t want to do (when it comes to extra-curricular activities), I am a firm believer in commitments. Before we sign up our kids for anything, we always make sure they know long the obligation lasts. It teaches them that others depend on their commitment (e.g., team sports), too.

I bought gas yesterday and it was 3.73 here too. Ugh. We’re going on a road trip this summer… it’s going to cost us more in gas than in hotels!!! If there weren’t 9 of us going in 2 cars it would almost be cheaper to fly.

I’m totally intrigued by Hurricane Popcorn. Maybe you could offer it as a prize in the next giveaway?
Speaking of giveaways, I was really ticked off at the people who refused to include Canada in their campaigns. I mailed a beautiful print to the US to the winner of my giveaway, and the postage difference was almost non existant. I understand that mailing to Australia and Europe may be different, but come ON people.

I’ve had the arare (rice crackers) & furikaki (seaweed) before, they were yummy! So I think the popcorn thrown in would be good too.

The gas prices aren’t as high as I was expecting, I have heard they are that high on the mainland in places. I think the going rate here is about $3.45 this week…gulp!

I’m glad your flight crew didn’t have a problem with the baby. If Mr. Snobby wants to dictate who can sit near him, he needs to charter his own jet next time!

I’m also glad to hear that you let GG out of the dance lessons. I really think at this young age it’s good for our kiddos to try out lots of different activities to see just what they want to do. My DD is a perfectionist and won’t try anything that she thinks she won’t do well at. I’m suprised at her determination with ice skating because she isn’t very good yet, but she still wants to go.

Thanks for the updates. I need to get better about this myself.

Thank you so much for getting back to us on those items! The price of gas is unreal. I saw $3.79 at most places around here.

I was happy to hear that the f/a’s were on the baby’s side.

Poor lil things — they don’t have any choice.

Hurricane popcorn. I’d try it.

Two hours in traffic! OMG!!! That’s insane! We live about 15 miles from anywhere and it takes 20-30 minutes to get to most places we go, but thank goodness we don’t have to sit in traffic like that!
