It’s Aloha Friday

September 7, 2007

Sorry, but this was the only video I could find on YouTube.

Here in Hawaii, every Friday is considered Aloha Friday. This is the day we take it easy and look forward to the upcoming weekend, relaxing, and enjoying the outdoors.

In honor of this tradition, I’ve decided to try and publish more causal posts on Aloha Friday. What I’ll do is post a general question/topic and then leave the comments open to you. Let’s give it a try and see how it goes.

What was your favorite toy as a child?

Although I never really cared for toys much, I would say my favorite was my Chrissy doll with the retractable hair. My Barbies were up there too along with my brother’s GI Joe when I needed a new boyfriend for the Barbies. :)

I think my favorite had to be my “My Friend Mandy” and “My Friend Jenny” dolls. I still have them packed away in a trunk somewhere. I really should pull them out for me my girls to play with one of these days. Maybe. :)

I played with toys ALL the time. I loved strawberry shortcake, carebears, and my little ponies, but my VERY FAVORITE was my cabbage patch kid, Alex. I can still remember the way she smelled when I first opened her box…

Ooo, it’s hard to pick just one. I loved playing with cars though. I had a huge collection of little die cast cars and I played with those often.

Ohhh. hand down without a doubt,,,my swing set was my favorite. It may not of been a “toy” but that is what I played on for hours and hours.

I am hysterical at the thought of “Aloha Friday”, because I cannot imagine people in some parts of your great state being any more relaxed and ready for the weekend.

Barbie wins my vote as fav childhood toy, I loved her and all her clothes and her fab house. I still do.

First of all, I want Aloha Friday here. In Georgia.

I loved playing with Barbie dolls as a child. My most favorite thing was a 1970s camper and camping set. Embarassingly, I think that I played with that set well beyond the normal childhood toy years.

I lived in Hawaii for 7 glorious years of my life. I still miss it. Aloha Friday beats TGIF.

My favorite toy as a child was a tape recorder! My brothers and I would make fake radio shows, sing songs, and just be silly with it.

I played with baby dolls until I was a teenager! I had a cloth baby with a plastic head. I slit it’s mouth open so I could feed it real food like green beans and hamburgers. Needless to say it starting rotting and my mom had to throw it away :o( Oh and I was only five when I did that!

What was your favorite toy?

I begged and begged for a Cabbage Patch Kid when they first came out and I finally had to break down and use the dirtiest trick in the book to get one — I cried when my dad wouldn’t get me one (from a fireworks store in Kentucky of all places). He totally fell for it and to this day I still have my Clarence (though he seems to have lost his clothes somewhere along the way).

I made you a cute little graphic for this fun themed post if you’re interested. Email me :-)

My Mrs. Beasley doll was my favorite toy! I think I got her when I was about three and I played with her all the time. Plus, being in and out of the hospital frequently during my childhood, I always took her with me. Once she even made it into the operating room. ;)

One of my all-time favorite toys was my Lite Brite. Probably a runner up would be my Barbies. I played with Barbies all the time.

My favorite stuffed animal is one I still have and that I passed on to my girls. It’s a beautiful bunny rabbit puppet that looks very real! His name is Thumper and I carried him everywhere as a kid. It’s a wonder he still looks so good. ;)

Which toy was my favorite? Probably my bike. I could get away from my brothers on it and I used it to go everywhere. When I look back at a map of my old hometown and see how far I used to go on the bike I’m amazed…I would never let DD go that far on her own now days. but it was a different time and a lot safer back then. And EVERYONE knew EVERYONE back then so if I did anything wrong, my parents knew before I even got home. LOL

Happy Friday!!

I had a Baby That a’way doll that I absolutely loved. That doll is still at my Mom’s house. it is about 32 year old now.

I loved books but aside from reading I loved paper dolls. All kinds. I think Shirley Temple was my favorite but there were a lot I enjoyed.

My favorite toy… I had a little Pooh Bear house and it had these little Weeble like characters from the book. There was a slide, a seesaw, swings, a car, even a little swimming pool. I actually still have this out in my garage! :) Guess I should let the kids play with it… or not… :)

My little sister was my favorite toy. I would dress her up, love on her, take out my frustrations on her, hide her, everything I could think of - she endured!

Favorite? Just one? Yikes. Let’s see, I remember my legos with crystal clarity but I’d have to say my love was always my dolls. I’d have given my left arm for the reality dolls my daughter has today. I did everything I could think of to bring my to life. :)

Hugs,
Holly

My favorite toy that I can remember at least was a green treehouse thing that raised up and opened up for the Weebles to go in and play and it had a slide inside it and an elevator for them. I did a google image search for it and apparently they have a “new” version of it - how cool!

I suppose a teddy bear doesn’t really count, more of a cuddly than a toy as such. Or should I call him, the teddy a transitional object? Sort takes a bit of the fun out of it!
Cheers

Oh, wow, that video totally transported me back to Hawaii! Aloha Friday, LOL–everyone is relaxed there everyday! Now I miss it more than ever! And I’ll have to check out that website, LOL.

Favorite toy? A book.

I would probably have to say my favorite toys were Barbies or baby dolls.
I dont really remember the other toys we had.

“It’s Aloha Friday, No Work Till Monday … dodododo dahdah, dodododo…”

Uh oh, I can’t get that catchy tune out of my head. lol

Favorite toy? My Barbie dolls. I loved putting them into all kinds of soap opera situations and then making up crazy ways for them to get out of them. *grin*

Is it any wonder I turned out the way I did? *wink*

Hello, I hope this finds you hanging loose. I wanted to tell you that on the Island somewhere is a four seater blue dune buggy we sold to a guy who moved to the island . It is strange to think that one day you might see my old dune buggy on the Island. keep an eye out for it.

Loved Shrinky Dinks, my Barbie dress-up head and colorforms. Terrific toys!

Hope you’re having a great weekend.

How fun! Love this idea!

And by the way, right by my computer here on the wall, is my Hawaii calendar…we bought it last Oct. when we were there! :)

Anyway…I loved so many of my toys it’s hard to pick a favorite…I guess it would be my bigger than life size baby doll made my Madame Alexander. I didn’t get her until I was nine, but she seemed so life like, I just loved her! Still do, but she’s still at my mom’s house…but we’re in the process of getting her house up for sale so have a feeling we’ll be reunited soon! :)

Now, are you also going to answer your questions every Friday? ;)

That video makes me want to hop on a plane and go to Hawaii!

I tagged you to play along in the Green Christmas Meme. I’m anxious to hear about Christmas in Hawaii!

some old prom dresses (or bridesmaid dresses) that were in a storage box. We would take turns dressing up and having dances, or coronations, or weddings.
They smelled like moth balls.
