No, I’m not talking about the Presidential Race.
Girlie Girl’s school is currently holding elections for a Parent Representative on the School Community Council. There are only 2 people running for this position and I have no clue who either of them are. So how do I cast my vote?
Parent #1 is the current Parent Representative and is seeking a re-election. She’s also active on the Middle & High School Community Councils in our district and strives to make a positive impact on our children’s education.
Parent #2 is a SAHM who’s concerned about student issues. She’s never served on any community councils before but would like the opportunity to help make the school a better place for everyone.
Since these two women are very different in experience, I guess it depends on if I’m happy with the way things are or if I’m looking for a new face and fresh ideas. Well, since Girlie Girl has only been attending the school for less than a year, I don’t think I can say one way or another.
Now that I think about it, I actually have a 3rd option - I could just not vote.
Right now I’m leaning toward Parent #2. I figure that if Parent #1 doesn’t win, she’ll still be involved in the community in one way or another. And even though Parent #2 doesn’t have any experience, she has to start somewhere, right? I give her credit for even attempting to get involved.
So who would you vote for? The Incumbent or The Underdog?

Well I think that I agree with how you’re feeling about this. I usually feel at a loss for some of the elections in my area. Like when it’s time to vote for the school board. Since that doesn’t affect me at all, I usually just don’t vote for any of them.
But your argument that #1 will stick around anyway seems like a good reason to give #2 a shot.

If I was happy with #1’s accomplishments, I’d vote for her. If I wasn’t happy with her, then I’d vote for #2. Don’t fix what isn’t broken!

Awww, give Parent #2 a chance. You’re right about #1: she will probably be involved even if she doesn’t win.

I don’t know… I think if #2 had presented some good ideas and thought for the school, I’d probably vote for her. Sometimes you need some new blood to keep things going…

My vote would go for #2. A new change and a fresh start are always good.
I agree, you have to give her credit for entering, shows how much she does care.
