A Special Talent

April 26, 2007

While on my most recent layover, a bunch of us decided to go to a Karaoke Bar.

Usually, I stay as far away from a microphone as possible. I can’t sing and I know it. In fact, I’m so bad that I’d be the perfect person to audition for American Idol.

There was this one girl in our group who is normally a pretty quiet person. However, get her up on stage and girlfriend can sing! It was amazing. It was like a whole different person up there.

I found myself envying her. What I wouldn’t give to be able to sing like that. To make people stop talking mid-sentence and command their undivided attention. I was speechless.

What one special talent would you like to have?

I’d like to put a finger by my nose, wiggle it, (like the woman from Bewitched) and my whole house would be clean. ;)
I’m not asking too much, am I?

I too would love to be able to sing, either that or play one of my instruments very well, so I could just sit and play for people. I never got quite good enough that I only pull them out for me, myself and I. And singing I save for J and the car.

I would like to be able to sing. From what I hear from folks other than my family, I’m not all that bad. When I was a kid my friends used to ask me to sing to them…but my mom & brothers said I was horrible. *sigh* My husband & daughter think I’m fine.
I don’t need to be a famous singer…just better than my Mom says I am.

funny how your family can crush the hope right out of you.

I would love to be able to sing in front of people. I have a decent voice, but I get really nervous. My husband once offered me 500.00 to sing karaoke but I wouldn’t do it.

I also wish I played an instrument, the piano.

I always wanted to act - I tried out for several plays and the people always smiled politely and said, “NEXT” :) I thought it would be fun to be in a play…

My dream (and something I wish I could do) is to dance professionally - like a Laker Girl or something. Not like ballerina dancing..but like “dancing” dancing. I can bust a move..but I just wish I had the skinny little bod and the REALLY GOOD skills so I could do it professionally. I just love that kind of stuff.

Lots of people wishing they could sing or perform in some way. Interesting…

I can sing; I wish I had the gift of “perfect pitch” (i.e., I wish could look at a piece of music and sing it on key without instrumental accompaniment.)

I also wish I had an ear for harmonizing. My friend Reg doesn’t read music, but she has the ability to improvise a harmony to my melody. Sigh.

I wanna play guitar. That would probably help me with my vocal tone and pitch.

Oh, and I want that twitching of the nose and having a clean house trick, too.

Singing would probably be the one for me too.

I actually have that secret one as only a few people know I can sing. My daughter tells me I should be on American Idol….I tried to explain why that would be like the MRS America…LOL But I do wish I could play the piano by ear that’s always fascinated me when someone could play perfectly what they just heard. I like Karen’s idea of magical powers and I’m with Desert Songbird on wishing I could harmonize. But if I could pull just any gift out of a bag I’d like the gift of understanding and speaking multiple languages.

Hugs,
Holly

To play instruments. I also wish I had better speaking abilities. I’m so smooth and professional in my head, but the words don’t always come out well.

I have always wished I could paint and now I am wishing that I was a better photographer. I’m blaming part of my poor photography on my camera though.

My wish would be to be more creative. I think part of my problem are time constraints. I would love to be able to write better, decorate our house, and landscape our yards. Another wish would be able to make people laugh. My husband’s really good at it, but I got stuck with the too serious gene or something.

I used to hace a band with my sisters. I called it Red Licorice, after my favorite candy. I was just starting to get really good at my guitar, and then marraige and babies came along and I haven’t touched my guitar for 6 years. I just want to pick up where I left off.

Good topic! I would love to be able to play piano or guitar. Its a little depressing to sit down at a piano, wishing to play something truly profound, and only be able to muster up “Chopsticks”.

It would also be cool to be able to draw well enough that people wouldn’t have to ask, “So what’s that supposed to be?”

The constant ability to remember what the heck I came into this room for!

I wish I could sing higher notes EFFORTLESSLY and sing while playing the piano.
I did lots of Karaoke session while in Japan, 10+ year of Karaoke literally “fixed” some of my singing glitches and improved my confidence…but hey, we sing in semi-dark rooms and the rest of the gang are looking through song books busily so no one will notice the glitches!

My family and my husband’s whole family loves singing. Karoke or videoke as it is more fondly called here is a popular form of entertainment during birthdays and family gatherings. Everyone sings but not us (me and my husband). Funny, how they never ask us to contribute for videoke expenses for family get togethers because they know we don’t sing anyway. I like singing but never infront of an audience because I know I can never carry a tune properly. My husband sings a little better than I do but he is not comfortable singing in public either eventhough it is just his family.

Surprisingly, my 3-yr old son likes singing. I think he can carry a tune much better than me and my husband. Thank goodness! :)

As for special talent, I’d love to be good at singing since I rate so poorly in this category.
