A Cure For The Blahs

May 1, 2007

The past few days I’ve been trying to fight off a case of the blahs. It hasn’t been fun.

I’m not sure if it’s the gloomy weather (yes, it rains here, too), the fact that Baby Bug has been sick and very fussy, not enough sleep, or a combination of all three. In any case, today I decided to do something about it.

For me, nothing perks me up like a good haircut. There’s something about going into a salon and seeing all the pretty people come out. I sit there and wonder what they looked like when they first entered, are they happy with the way their hair turned out, can they go home and achieve that same look day after day on their own?

So today I went in for a cut, color and highlight . . . the works. It took 3 1/2 hours in the chair but I love the way it turned out. I walked out of there feeling like a million bucks!

What about you? When you’re having a bad day, what do you do to feel better?

For me, I try to get something done. Usually if I’m feeling blah, a good does of accomplishment makes me feel like my day isn’t a total waste.

Like yesterday. Mother-in-law and her passive-aggressive games had me ready to scream, cry or drink (or all three). So I tore apart my sunroom –moving all of the furniture, dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing and re-organizing as I went. Wow. I felt wonderful! (and secretly I knew MY sunroom was cleaner than the mother-in-law’s, so that made me feel even better!) ;)

I do two things actually:

1. Treat myself to some yummy, and very fattening, Krispy Kreme donuts. I don’t eat them very often so when I do, it’s a rare treat.

2. Then, feeling guilty for consuming so much fat, I either walk or go biking. For me, exercising my frustrations out works like a charm. By the time I’m through, I have things back into perspective, my body is pleasantly humming along and I’m too tired to care about what it was bothering me in the first place. lol

I WISH I could enjoy getting my hair done - but the bottom line is, I hate to be messed with. To me, getting a haircut/color is a necessary evil, one I’d happily give up if I could.

I’m glad you chased your blahs away!

That sounds like a great pick-me-up :) Good for you.

My escape is simply reading, since I usually can’t get away by myself.

This is an easy one! I shop! It doesn’t even matter where or what for. Nothing cheers me up like getting in touch with the inner hunter/gatherer inside. I think the blahs must have been going around. I had them all weekend. Getting my hair done usually cheers me too, but shopping is the number one fix!

Oh I like a good cut and color too…I’m about due to get my roots touched up…they’re so dark! I’m considering trying a new stylist closer to me..but then I worry about them messing it up. LOL

Shopping helps cheer me up when I find stuff in my size with an incredible price.

Also getting a hug with a massage from DH cheers me up too.

My new microwave is supposed to come today…that’s exciting. It’s been difficult to cook without a microwave for over a week.

I guess with 3 kids around, I don’t have that luxury of being blah. If anything, I’d leave for a few hours to do some errands on the weekend when the hubbie is home. Besides that, if I have my 2 hour nap daily while Sophia sleeps…I’ll be alright.

Now to the question nobody is asking…what does your haircut look like? We need to see a picture!!! :)
I usually do like to shop, but also I like to accomplish things - that usually makes me feel better. Well, that and a big bowl-a-cookie dough!!! yum!!!

It all depends on what kind of blahs I am having. Sometimes I shop, sometimes I eat, other times Ijust cuddle up with a blanket and a good book. Hope your haircut helped pull you out of the blahs and that you are feeling better.

I’m sorry Baby Bug hasn’t been feeling well. I hope she feels better soon. I’m sure your hair looks fantastic. It does make you feel better to have a new hair cut.
I had a tough weekend this past one, and I’m going today to get a pedicure and buy some new flip flops and shorts. Hopefully pretty toes and some shopping will help me feel better too.
Lately, I’ve been listening to music to get me in a more upbeat kinda mood.

Pray, exercise, eat chocolate and/or talk my eldest daughter, Funsocksgirl. If it’s really bad I tell Mulletman that I need a “day off” and I take off to bargain shopping or sit in a sunny place and read.

I love getting on You Tube and watch all the videos of giggling babies! There is even one video that has a set of quads all belly laughing at the same time!!!! Too precious and always makes me forget about why I’m feeling yucky.

Praying that your baby girl feels better soon!

I’m very picky about my hair, and rarely happy about how it comes out… so getting my hair done is a chore and stressful to me! I usually read a book or play a computer game when I feel like that.

I hope you guys feel better soon. :D

Pampering always does it for me too. Mani/Pedi, hair, massage, shopping… any one or all :) As for my hair, I can never get it to look like the day I get it done.

Oh well I’m glad you got to go out and have a little ‘me-time’. You should post a picture of your new do. I’d love to see it.

When I’m feeling blah… I try and get on some blogs and get some others to cheer me up. Or I eat some fattening sweet food, or I clean. One or all of those, lol. Pick your posison.

I love going to the salon! I’ve been going to the same salon since college and I have a regular stylist. Her name is Lucy. She cuts my hair and she does my hair color too. Lucy also threads my eyebrows. It usually takes 2 hours for everything to be done.

Going to the salon is also my special stress buster or simply my own personal treat to myself.
