Weight Watchers is leveraging an integrated social media day and its own social network, Weight Watchers Community, to promote its Lose for Good philanthropic initiative. Lose for Good is a campaign that fights hunger worldwide by donating money to two charity organizations as Weight Watchers members lose weight. In this, the campaign’s second year, Weight Watchers is broadening its reach to do a world of good in two ways:

- Lose-A-Palooza, an integrated social media day on September 15 in which every Lose for Good post on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and personal blogs amounts to an additional $1 donation, up to $25,000 on top of the initial $1 million commitment. For additional details about how you and your readers can participate in Lose-A-Palooza, you can visit http://weightwatchers.com/loseapalooza

Weight Watchers Community will host Lose for Good challenges, blog and vlog posts and other program-related content. It’s a niche social network that’s open to everyone. In addition to its Lose for Good info., the site incorporates many features of popular networking sites: customizable profiles, groups, blogs, photo albums and message boards. The site also offers some unique features, including fitness/health challenges and a recipe swap section. Visit http://community.weightwatchers.com/index.aspx
Last year’s Lose for Good campaign raised $1 million to fight hunger, established 2,000 local food drives and donated 1.5 million pounds of food to local food banks. This year, Weight Watchers is utilizing best-of-breed social media tools to broaden program awareness and increase its donation to help fight hunger worldwide.

That’s really awesome. I used to go Weight Watchers – it worked but I didn’t have time to go to the meetings! I would love to get back into it, especially for this double beneficial challenge.
