My hobby is sewing.

I make baby items like the diaper shirt above as well as boppy covers, bibs, burp cloths, blankets and matching pillows. I used to sell them at craft fairs but had to stop when Baby Bug was born. Now I just make them for family and friends.

Since Baby Bug is getting older, I’m seriously thinking of starting up again. Maybe I’ll even try to put together a website to sell them online. Any suggestions on a business name?

  1. Very nice! What a great hobby… I am sure the family and friends really appreciate it when they get such a great gift. As for your business name, why not “baby bug”?

  2. Gattina says:

Nice hobby and a good idea opening a webside and sell online ! What about “Baby Bugs online shop” ?
BTW you asked me where I take all my time ! That’s a good question ! If there is something I have too much in my life then it is time ! I am retired and happy to have all these hobbies, otherwise life would be very boring !!

  3. Wow, that’s lovely. I’m terrible with a sewing machine. Someday I’d like to be better, maybe take up quilting. What a great hobby and a very nice choice for The Hunt. It’s a fun week, seeing what different hobbies there are.

  4. Connie says:

Those are so cute!! Most helpful too.

    Great hobby photo. Take care,
    Connie

    My photo is up.

  5. letha says:

Very nice, I can sew but have never made anything proper.

  6. I haven’t the patience for sewing. I think it’s awesome that people actually take the time to make clothes.

  7. Pat says:

Oh, that is soooo gorgeous. I think you would have a great business there. Sorry I do not have a name for you.

Thanks for stopping by – Happy Weekend!

  8. Mitey Mite says:

Well, yes, Baby Bug would be a perfect name. That is really cute; I bet you could sell a lot.

  9. Maribeth says:

I’m so envious. I always wanted to seew, but I do not have the knack for it. Everything I attempt comes out looking horrid! I say bravo, girlfriend!

  10. gewels says:

How beautiful- what baby wouldn’t want some Island duds. The online thing is a fabulous idea. I’ll try to come up with a cool name for you- baby bugs was good too.

  11. Prudence says:

Cool. You can make this a business, you know. Nothing like combining work with pleasure :-)

Beautiful shirt! You are very talented. :) That sounds like a fun hobby and one that would make a great business.

  13. Gabrielle says:

I can’t sew, but my (late) mom made great clothes for herself and me, since I was a child :) Thanks for stopping by and have a great week end!

  14. Waya says:

Wow Kailani! I’m so not worthy! That’s beautiful and you’re so talented! You should definitely sell it and I like the name “Baby Bug Chick”.

    Good luck to you!

  15. Lissete says:

I can’t sew. Heck, I can barely sew on a button! The first name that popped in my mind was of course baby bug. How about Baby Bug’s Bibs n’ More.

  16. Very sweet! I, too, like Baby Bug.

  17. Karen says:

I like the Baby Bug name! Very cute.

I guess I haven’t been around in the blog world long enough b/c I didn’t know that Photo Hunt Saturdays existed!

Yippie! I participated in my first! Thanks!

  18. Carey says:

How about baby island wear? What a fun hobby. Can you teach me to sew? Ive had a sewing machine for almost 2 years now, and i dont know how to use it. one of these days i guess, i will get around to figuring it out.

  19. Shelby says:

Oh I used to sew! A lonnnnnnnnnng time ago. Now I need a new sewing machine. … maybe I’ll do that this summer.

on the business name – how ’bout Island Kanoodles?

  20. How pretty!!! So bright and cheery! If I had a little girl, I’d definitely buy one of these for her. I’m not sure I have a suggestion for a business name (but give me time, it’s still early *grin*) but did you say website? *perk*

    Have a great weekend, Kailani!

  21. lulu says:

I love sewing too! But I must say that I’m very impressed with your blog design! It’s awesome!

  22. Shoshana says:

I am learning to sew, it’s harder than knitting.

  23. srp says:

I was thinking “Baby Bug” as well, but I see someone has already mentioned this. These are so cute! I sewed most of my daughters clothes when she was small but didn’t start until she was about 18 months or so. Those infant patterns were always too big and the tiny stuff was really hard to do. (Why I didn’t do much in the way of doll clothes.)

I’ve noticed that when women eat out, often we drop food on our dresses (chest area) or at least I do and sometimes it is hard to get out or you have to take them to the cleaners and such. I think someone should do a line of designer bibs… perhaps to match the outfits or something with lace and rhinestones. Hey, I would buy one!

    Thanks for stopping by.

  24. I agree with naming it baby bug!
That is a wonderful hobby and I marvel at anyone’s talent that can sew.

First time I stopped by, I love your blog!

  25. Kelli says:

Great job! I haven’t sewed in quite a while. I need to start something up. :)

Thanks for visiting and happy weekend!

  26. Caylynn says:

You are very talented! :) That shirt is lovely. :) No ideas for a business name but it sounds like a great project to start sewing and selling the items again. :)

  27. Bobbie says:

No suggestion on the name, but what a great talent you have!!
Good luck with your future plans :)
    Happy Hunting & Happy Weekend!

  28. smalltown RN says:

    I am a terrible sewer…I always admire people who can sew….great vest…..

  29. Stacy says:

You did a wonderful job. That’s a hobby that I wish I had. I love to have homemade things and would love to be able to make my hubby’s costumes instead of having to pay someone else to do it.

  30. Pamela says:

my security word was beautiful – and that says it all

I guess I hadn’t paid close enough attention – as I didn’t realize your sewing skills.
It takes much creativity and patience to choose the pattersn, the material, and put it together in a way that makes each piece an individual work of art.

You surprise me when I least expect it.

  31. dexie says:

aaaaah. someday i’ll have my own sewing machine.

  32. jmb says:

This beautiful, I hope you take pictures of everything you make. I make baby quilts but just give them away.
    jmb

  33. sugarmama says:

Absolutely cute! I would love to see your online store come into fruition! Baby Bug would be a perfect name!

  34. Wendy says:

What an adorable shirt! I admire your hobby. I sure wish I could sew. My husband got me a great sewing machine years ago, but I never had time to take a class. I started making a shirt, but never finished it. Maybe someday…

    (Thanks for stopping by!)

  35. Heather says:

I miss having a working machine. I used to make all kinds of clothes for my girlsthen my machine broke and broke again, and again. Then the next one did. It must be me. :) Ah well, I have plenty of other things to keep me busy–and as for how I find time? I didn’t when the kids were in diapers but now that they are older I find that they are doing more work alone (we homeschool) and taking on more chores meaning I have more time to do the other things. Also I only do three or four at any given space of time. I may bake and read a lot for a few weeks then blog and do webdesign, taking breaks to paint (while listening to old movies in the background since I work from pictures stored on my computer. :) ) The ones that take the most concentration (like writing) tend to be the ones that get less time. BE encouraged, as kids grow they find their own amusements and you will have more timefor your own. :)

As for names–I would use Baby Bug if it is available.

  36. Linda says:

What a great hobby! I used to do sew a long time ago but I haven’t done it in quite awhile. My specialty was always the girls Halloween costumes!

  37. Barbara says:

That looks like a great hobby – lucrative too. I agree with the others on a name: Baby Bug

  38. Melissa says:

You have an amazing talent! I have never been very good with sewing clothing. I forget to notch seams, don’t understand patterns very well… the list goes on…
I like the idea of Baby Bug for a name :)

  39. Jose says:

My mom is a seamstress too and she also puts lots of love into what she makes. She started selling to friends and before she knew it sha had a customer base that she would visit evey weekend, she made good money from doing that.

I can see that what you saw has potential, baby stuff is always on high demand.

  40. tray says:

    that is beautiful! nice work

  41. YellowRose says:

That is so cute! I loved diaper shirts when my kids were little, in Texas it was too hot to wear anything else in the summer! I wish I could sew, it’s one thing I can do to get by, but never mastered.

Oh, and what I got from COACH, the large leather Hamptons carry all in sand! I love it!!!

  42. BeachMama says:

Very cool. Sewing is a hobby of mine too and yes, I specialize in baby stuff. I did sew for business for a while, but thankfully can go back to hobby and the stuff I love to sew.

  43. Elizabeth says:

I love it. What about something to go with your blog (if you did an online store) like… “It’s Sew an Island Life” or “Island Fares.” Maybe my ideas are lame, but I just thought I’d throw them out there.

  44. Heidi says:

Those are wonderful! Sewing seems like a better hobby than knitting in a warm climate anyhow!

  45. momto3cubs says:

    “Hawaiian Baby”

    Nice sewing job!

  46. meeyauw says:

What an adorable name: Baby Bug! But yes! Go for the online business! You have a skill and talent to share.

  47. You are really talented and I would definitely go for it!

  48. eph2810 says:

What a beautiful hobby you have. I can’t sew, so I am always in awe when I see people create such beautiful things.
I think you would do well selling on the Internet…How about “Island Baby Fashion”

  49. Christine says:

That is SEW Beautiful! A very pretty baby shirt.I’d buy one! :) Sewing has been one hobby I’d love to learn how to do!

  50. Mary (mert) says:

GF, you are talented! That is really pretty.

I think you should name it after your girls:
    Girlie Girls and Baby Bugs

    or Baby Bug’s Bibs

  51. PowersTwinB says:

Love the baby dress! How about “Imma Mommas Baby” ? Beautiful sewing! Thanks for visiting my photo today

  52. rach says:

That’s a great hobby. I really admire people who are great in sewing ‘coz I’m terribly poor at it. I couldn’t even mend my son’s clothes. Good thing my mother-in-law is always so kind to help me out. :)

Thanks for visiting my blog. Sorry for my late visit. I’ve been quite busy this past weekend. It was indeed a lovely wedding and how right you’re about the Cinderella thing. The carriage ride was a fun fairytale moment.

  53. Shawna says:

That is so cute!! I do like the name Baby Bug since it means something to you. Some other ideas are Beach Baby, Baby Bug’s Islandwear, Aloha Baby.

  54. I love sewing! I even started selling my designs on eBay. (CuddleMonkeyCreations) is the user name if you want to take a look. Or I usualy post tons of it on my blog LOL.

I really really like that shirt!! I bet with a little matching diaper cover I would “awwwww” for days! I am sure I would purchase the set too…if I had a littl one. Soon enough. We will get pregnant soon enough :D
