The Waikiki Shell, which opened in September 1956, is home to many outdoor concerts throughout the year. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a picnic dinner under the stars.
- BTW, the final winner in the daily book giveaway is Carmen from Gone to Plaid. Congratulations!

Hey, this makes me think of The Hatch in Boston!
8:11 am
where is that at? very nice design!
8:19 am
I bet you can go to some really great concerts there!

I’ve never seen anything quite like that before. I wonder did they intend to design something that was based on a shell, or did the name come later when they saw what it looked like. I would think the acoustics must be great.

What a beautiful setting in which to view a concert!

Very interesting. I bet the sound is awesome. Would love to see (hear) it! Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend.

That looks like a great band shell. I’ve seen similar band shells in other locations (including back home in Canada) but none in such a beautiful setting! It looks like a great place to attend a concert.

I love that they call it the Shell! I’m a theme-y person so I appreciate that sort of wittiness for an ampitheater that is on the island.

Someday I’m going to get there. I swear! Great picture!

It totally looks like the one in Boston: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hatch_Shell
But I bet it’s nice to be able to go there year round, instead of only about 6 months of the year
Congrats to Carmen!

Very cool shot! It reminded me of the one in Boston, too. I try to watch the Boston Pops Orchestra every fourth of July. I guess this shape really works to project the sounds!

That is pretty amazing
What do you take in your picnic basket???
The closest cool place for a concert here is at
The gorge. I’ve only been to one concert there. But it was something else.

Maybe we can catch a nice concert when we’re there in October!

That’s pretty cool looking. Yet another reason to come visit hawaii. There’s so much stuff that I’d have to end up living there to experience everything I want.

That is a beautiful structure and it stands out well against the blue sky. It also is wonderful for the acoustics of the event.

Great photo!

Great choice, the Waikiki Shell. I can’t wait to get home and see all the places I’ve missed for the past 8 months.
I’ll be living in Ma’ili. I’m going to miss seeing my daughter who’s getting deployed. She leaves April 18 for training with the group she’s going with. Hope they let her come home before she goes to Iraq. I’ll let you know when I get back to Hawai’i.

Looks like a great place to spend some time just relaxing. Happy weekend.

What a wonderful place to listen to a concert. Beautiful pick for The Hunt.

I can see myself there VERY easily! Lucky you to be able to experience it!

You could listen to the “Three Crappy Tenors” there and it would still sound absolutely heavenly!
My husband and I love your home and hope we can come back. It really does get inside your blood!

That’s a remarkable design. I’m sure it’s a popular venue for shows and concerts. Thank you for sharing.

Wow! I’ve been to Hawaii twice, but never saw this! Wrong island I was on, I guess. Thanks for sharing!
(I'll take good care of it.)
