Puppy Love

June 14, 2007

It was bound to happen. I just didn’t think it would happen so soon.

Girlie Girl has a boyfriend. Yes, she’s only 5 years old.

A group of kids from her school got together at Chuck E Cheese after her graduation ceremony. As expected, all the girls played together and so did all the boys. All except my daughter, she ran around with her boyfriend. Whenever I checked on her to make sure she had enough tokens, she would tell me that “Kai” already gave her some. I felt like she was on her first date!

The first time I ever liked a boy, I was 12 years old. He was in my homeroom class and sat right in front of me because his last name started with the letter before mine. I had a crush on him for 4 years but we were never more than friends. In fact, he ended up marrying one of my best friends!

Do you remember your first crush?

Funny you should ask! I was/am going to post about my first crush! Actually, I was like Girlie Girl, I was about 4/5 when I first fell in “love”! But I didn’t have a boy paying for my stuff!

my very first crush was on my cousin (he’s still pretty hot…but a jerk always has been a jerk.)

I grew up in a small town so I knew everyone from kindergarden and they were all yucky. LOL! It wasn’t until 8th grade when a new guy (fresh meat) moved in that I had my next crush. I think I posted a comment or blogged about Henry before. I didn’t develop until later so the guys from my hometown never got to see what a knock-out I became. ;)

Too cute! But, what funny timing… I just saw him (my 1st crush, that is), in concert, over the weekend!!

I was actually much older than Girlie Girl, and had my first “real” crush on a boy with amazing talent. He played the fiddle/violin (still does) and even won a National title, as the youngest ever to win! Now he plays in a band that has played with John Mayer and Counting Crows!! Cool stuff!

Oh, and for the record, he actually liked me, too!

I used to sit in the basement of the house next door (we were both 4) and watch cartoons with the neighbor boy while we ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. His name was Johnny. We used to dip Hershey bars in the peanut butter jars, too.

My first school aged crush was a boy named Tim. I sat behind him in fifth grade, and he ended going to high school with my kindergarten pal, Tom. Tim refurbished Tom’s historic house, the same house in which Tom lives now and where I stayed when I visited him in April. Tim broke up with his high school sweetheart for a while, and then we dated the summer we graduated from high school (I was visiting Indiana from Florida)

I’m have no idea of Girlie Girl will remember this first crush. Little Man had a “girlfriend” in preschool that he doesn’t remember.

Same here, I thought I fell in love at 12!! LOL. I never even had the courage to get near him (he is a year older than me, same school). The kids now? some 4 yo (not mine) came up to me and said she liked that boy classmate of hers! At 4!!

3rd grade. Kenny Krismanth. :) I wouldn’t have called it “love.” Just a crush. (now I know there is a HUGE difference)

I remember on Valentine’s Day, everyone in the class got a cheap paper Valentine, but I snuck a matchbox car in his Valentine bag. ;) And I remember being super nervous to do it!

I’ve google him, and the only one I can come up with is a multi-million dollar developer. Hmmm, wonder if that’s him?

Oh, so very sweet that Kai gave her some tokens. She’s already demonstrating good taste.

i’ve never had a boyfriend. well, i guess you can say that i married my first boyfriend.

growing up with boys, i hated them. wasn’t interested in girls (have to clairify that now adays). my brothers and cousins were kinda mean because they’d all play together.

so at 19 i had my first boy friend and the rest is history…

yep, it was my second year in preschool. I think her name was Jill. I do remember she liked to wear those 70s halters, though i think in preschool its just summer clothes.

Oh yes, although my first kiss happened with a kindergarten dropout, Paul, I later fell madly in love with Bruce, a fellow trombone player. We were 10 and my one-way infatuation lasted for years.

I don’t remember any when I was that young. I certainly remember the first big one and wrote about it on my blog. You can read it here.

Yep - kindergarten - and I was so mean to him! And he was mean to me. It was love, I tell ya!

I had a boyfriend in first grade. His name was Scott. We used to hold hands on the playground. Too funny. He would always say hi to my mom, “Hi Mrs. L.” Yes, he was a very polite young man. I wonder whatever happened to him.

My little guy is onto his second girlfriend already. Last year in kindergarten it was Stephanie; this year in Gr. 1 it’s Sarah. He’s careful to make distinctions - they’re just friends Mom, NOT girlfriends! Thank goodness LOL!

And they called it Puppy Love….sing it Donny! I, too, was five and his name was Bobby. I did all kinds of silly things so he would like me. This is how dumb I was, we dug a hole and I would put my foot in it and see if he could it me with the shovel! I told you it was dumb!! And yes, he eventually hit my big toe and I had to get a tetnus shot. But it was so worth it!

Oh they do grow fast don’t they? Today at the movie theatre I caught my daughter removing ALL the barriers to the boy next to her in hopes he’d hold her hand….yipes!

Hugs,
Holly

At least her boyfriend is paying for everything and taking care of her by giving her tokens. He’s gets it!
My crush was the boy next door. We grew up together, graduated together. He was so cute, that my girlfriends would just hang out at my house to get close to him.

I think I was around 11 or 12 when I had my first crush. He was our neighbor. Arriel was 10 years older than me but I had a big crush on him that lasted for many years. I remember having a crush on him until high school. I think he knew I had a crush on him but he was very nice and polite about it. He became an architect and met someone in his field and got married. I have no idea where he is now.

How cute!

My first crush was the little boy who lived next door. His name was scott and we did everything together!

Very cute. I remember my first crush, although I think it was forced upon us by our Mom’s as we were best friends living accross the street from each other. Eventually it just got to weird and we both moved so the crush was over. We moved on to other crushes.

I was in first grade. His name was Scotty. I wrote our names in a heart in my notebook. He came to my birthday party. And that was about the end of the romance…

My first love. His name was Michael, I met him at church. I almost remember what he looks like!

My 10 year old is already doing “name match up” love quizzes. She talks about marrying her friend A, a boy down the street. Honestly? I wouldn’t mind if she did. He’s a great kid. I feed her wild imagination whenever possible.

J, our 5 year old, will pull her hands up under her chin like she has bunny paws if I make mention of her having a boyfriend. Guess not, huh?

My first crush was in the first grade, so I was about Girlie Girl’s age, I guess. His name was Tom, and I remember getting into a spat with a little girl named Beth over him. heee!

At five years old I was chasing the boys around and kissing them during recess. Imagine the trouble I would get into these days, LOL.

My youngest boy just turned 5, and he’s had a girlfriend for a few months now ;) My two older boys have had girlfriends since preschool. So, Girlie Girl seems normal to me ;)

I had at least a couple of crushes at any given time as far back as I remember. (Well, until I got married.) The first two that I remember were named Robert and Stephen, and they both lived across the way from my apartment. I’d play with them on alternating days and be really mean to the other. I don’t know why they put up with it.

My Pirate Boy was engaged to a classmate named Abby last year (kindergarten); they were best friends, and he really misses her now that he’s in a new school. But now there’s a girl named Allie… (That’s my boy!)

momto3cubs has the right idea! My first crush was in kindergarten and I remember at another boy’s birthday party I chased Walter up a tree trying to kiss him. This was WAY back in the days when little girls wore their best dresses to parties… so, no tree for Judy! Needless to say, I don’t think the crush was reciprocated!

My first crush was on a boy who used to call for me to go out and play. He was called Simon and he had an American accent from living in Bermuda for a few years. I reckon we were about 7 or 8.
My daughter, who’s 6, says she has 31 boyfriends - she can only name about five of them though, and one of them is John Barrowman from Dr Who.

I was like Judy and chased after my first crush at about the age of 5, although it involved a sandpit rather than a tree. My daughter was “married” by the age of three, but also had a boyfriend, and told her father and I “that’s the way it’s always going to be”. I promise I didn’t set that example!
