Milk For a Healthy Body

September 15, 2008

With Girlie Girl back in school, every night I have to pack a healthy snack for her after-school program. Some times it’s really hard to think of different things for her to take and it’s so much easier to just throw in some cookies or a bag of chips.

That’s why I was very interested in learning more about Horizon Organic’s Single Serve Milk. They’re fortified with Vitamins A & D, are available in great flavors, and come in handy travel-sized containers. How convenient is that?

From the site: Horizon Organic® is committed to the long-term success of the organic community. We are passionate about the health of our families and our environment. We support family farmers and promote animal stewardship. Our strict and unwavering adherence to upholding the rigorous organic standards is a cherished part of our heritage. Organic is all we’ve done and it’s all we’ll ever do. It is with pride that we provide you with the best, great-tasting organic dairy products that make it easy for you to make a healthy difference in your life today and in the future.”

However, the real test was seeing if the girls would actually drink it. I didn’t think I’d have a problem since they love milk. In fact, they can finish a gallon of milk in 2 days! *thank goodness for Costco*

So, I decided to chill the containers and serve them with dinner.

It was no surprise that they loved all the different flavors but their favorite was actually the plain Low Fat Milk. Who would have thought? I decided to check out their website and found that they make a lot more than just milk - yogurt, cottage cheese, butter, sour cream, cheese, ice cream, eggs - all organic and healthy.

Horizon Organic provides essential nutrients without the dangers of antibiotics, pesticides, or growth hormones-making Girlie Girl’s after school snacks something I can feel good about.

So what about your kids? Do they like to drink milk?

Oooh my kids love milk, too. My two boys are going to send me to the poor house just over milk! Aaahhhh it costs more per gallon than gas in HI, huh?

Those are some gorgeously healthy milk drinkers there!

My son loooves milk. He goes through 2 or 3 gallons a week and likes it more than juice. We also like the Horizon milk and always make sure we have some on hand in the cabinet. They’re so easy!

My five year old loves milk! We are still waiting to give the 16 month old milk since his big brother had a bad allergy at this age. I am quite sure that both of the boys will be drinking it soon enough.

I have seen those packs and wondered about them. I may have to get some for kindergarten lunch box filler :)

Rocco loves the Horizon chocolate milk — and Costco has their own version of it too. That’s the only kind of chocolate milk he gets!

Both my kids drink milk. I also use the single serve for Miss J for lunch. In Thailand, those are the milk that I use to. Here it’s so hard to find box milk. I think the first time when I ask a person who works in the grocery store he wasn’t sure what I was talking about. :) It’s very convenient especially when we have to run around town.

Yeah, my kids LOVE milk! I’ve got an 11 yr old boy, a 10 yr old boy and a 5 yr old girl. They have been known to polish off more than a gallon a day. I think I’m going to have to start using some of their allowance money for milk! *LOL*

DS sure loves his milk! He drinks so much we had to switch him to 2% earlier than most kids are told to switch =)

Trust kids to throw you for the loop….that’s awesome though. I love Sam’s Club for the fresh fruit you can buy…here at least it’s always better than in other stores and cheaper too!

Hugs,
Holly

My kids are nuts about milk. I’m with you about Costco. Seriously, they go through so much milk a week it is insane. But, it is such a great source of calcium. I can’t complain! I’ll to check out this brand.

Love the photo!!
When the kids were growing up we went through gallons of milk and we always drank it ice cold. (with ice if necessary)
I don’t drink milk anymore. I really don’t care for it butI do pour rice milk on my cereal. My husband however easily drinks half gallon of milk a day.

I know that Starbucks sells low-fat organic chocolate milk, and it could be this brand (though it’s been a few months since we’ve been, so I’m not positive). If this is the brand they sell at Starbucks, my son loves it!

We do soy milk here, except for my hubby, who likes cow’s milk for his cereal and to dunk his cookies in. I actually buy Horizon when he wants some in the house–I’d rather it’s organic if he’s going to use it!

I think their little milk jugs are wonderful. Just grab one and go! I wish that Silk made little travel servings.
