This morning a friend called me from a nearby park and asked if Baby Bug and I would like to meet her there. Since I had the day off, I thought it was a great idea. All I had to do was get Baby Bug ready to go.
Sounds easy, right? Wrong.
First I had to give her a bath since she still had some of her breakfast in her hair causing it to stick out in every direction. She has to be presentable to take out in public. You never know who you might run into . . . a work friend, a Mom from Girlie Girl’s school, or worse yet, an ex-boyfriend.
Then I had to choose the right outfit. A hat for the sun. A jacket in case it gets cold. Sunglasses. Sunscreen. An extra outfit in case of emergency. Extra diapers and wipes. Anti-bacterial gel. Snacks. A Blanket. Of course, a cooler with cups of milk. On and on and on.
DH sat there laughing at my extensive preparation. “Gee, you’re only going to the park.”
I don’t know how he does it. When he leaves the house with the kids, all he grabs is the diaper bag (doesn’t even check to make sure everything is there) and a couple of bottles of milk.
Me, I need a good 45 mintues to plan and organize and prep and pack. I try to prepare for every possible situation that may occur.
Somtimes I wish I could be as easy going as he is. He takes everything in stride and I have never seen him stress over anything. Even when the situation calls for it. I don’t know, maybe it’s a guy thing.
In any case, if you’re ever in town and would like to meet for lunch, please give me at least 2 hours notice. Even then I can’t make any promises that I’ll be there on time.
What about you? If someone called you up out of the blue, how long would it take for you to get ready and leave?

It depends on who was calling me — if it were my brother or SIL or a very, very close friend, I could probably be out the door in 30 minutes or less, but if it’s someone not as close who I wouldn’t want to think I’m a total slob, it would be at least an hour.

It was easy for me, when my kids were small we travelled so much that my car was always stocked with their stuff. Still to this day there are hats and gloves in my car in July, and an extra pair of shorts or a t shirt in January. It always seems as soon as I clean it out I will need something, so I just leave that bag packed. Needless to say, as long as I’m showered I’m out in a matter of minutes.

5 minutes - and that includes coats, hats, and gloves for me and the twins. I just grab the diaper bag and figure anything that is missing that I really need, I can buy. If everything goes too insane, I can always come back home.
It actually probably takes me less time to get ready with the kids than without them. When I am without them I sit around thinking about what I need to do. With them, you gotta be quick. Once they are coated up, I have about two minutes before they are walking out the door without me.

I’m like you. 45 minutes. I have to make sure all 3 boys are looking decent (wash faces, check clothes, comb hair), grab everything we might need, and then get myself presentable. Most of the time I end up doing my makeup in the car as I’m driving.

I’ve had 10 years of practice with nannying. I have it down now. Hubby on the other hand takes a long time and still forgets the daipers.lol
I LOVE this look by the way!

LOVE the new layout.
I remember the days of having to drag so much stuff with me. I recall well being so relieved when I was back to picking up my purse and going!!
Husband is the same as yours. Would grab the bag. Never looked. Showed up once at #1Son’s swim lesson. No bathing suit, of course. It was laid out for him and I told him. Did he remember? Did he think about where he was going or what he would need there. Are you kidding? The poor kid had a swimming lesson in his “big boy pants.” The swimming teacher was laughing and said it wasn’t the first time a father had pulled that stunt.
It gets easier so hang in there!

Sorry, I’m like your hubby…I grab my shoes & keys and I’m gone. Now DD on the other hand takes at least 15 min if you want her to remember everything (that I’m listing…”got your socks?”…*sigh* “NO”…runs upstairs to get them, etc…)
5:54 am
Oh it would all depend on whether I wanted to impress or not
And here’s another template? Are you trying out different ones to see which you like? They’re all pretty fun.

it depends on where i am going. If we are going to lunch, i would make sure their hands and faces were washed and clean clothes, if we were going outside to play where i know that they would get dirty and need a bath when we got home, i would probably just throw some shoes on them and get them in the car…now i have 4 kids, and sometimes it seems to take forever because they are only so many shoes i can tie and jackets i can zip at one time. But i do like to plan ahead, so if i know i need all the extra stuff for a day i try to have it all ready the night before.
2:50 pm
If I’m getting all make-upped, then I need an hour. If I don’t care about makeup and hair curling, then I throw my hair in a big long ponytail and just go.

Yup, I think it’s a guy thing. We are natural worriers… I am so glad God made them a little more laid back than women. Who needs two neurotic parents? LOL! I am the same as you, and I promise to not only give you 2 hours but call you before I plan to come over to make sure it’s still ok to come.
Pink- Possums itch narrow knees. ;O) lol! It took me a while but I finally got the joke!

I can get out the door pretty stinkin’ fast some days. Then there are other days, when I don’t even make it out….
8:30 pm
I can usually get ready to be out the door in about 30 minutes for an out of the blue playdate. I don’t put makeup on unless I know I am leaving the house so I usually have to do that. Then I put some diapers in the diaper bag, grab a few juice andmilk boxes (we get the ones that don’t need a cooler) and if I remember, an extra outfit.
THings like sunscreen, wipes, and all that stay in the diaper bag. Unless Little Bear pulls them out. It has happened.
9:44 pm
Even packing the bare minimum, trying to get 4 kids ready and out the door, takes a long time. Marissa, gets herself made up with a little makeup, and styling her hair. I get the baby and Katelyn ready. Josh, gets himself ready, but I have to pack backup items for his Diabetes. It only takes me less than 10 min to get out the door, but add all the kids an hour or more easy!
3:58 am
If you called I’d fix you scrambled eggs in my pajamas
Now that’s what I call a good friend!
10:47 am
Hello - I have no babies but it takes me a good half hour to find my keys, coat etc so I dread to think how long it would take if I did have kids!
I think 45 minutes is very impressive.
1:13 pm
Ten minutes, tops! But I have been out before and found I had no nappy wipes which was an absolute disaster!
8:31 pm
Oh, I like the new design but I do miss the pink as well. I think it’s the Mom in all of us to be prepared for that “what if” scenario. My hubbie doesn’t have to worry since I usually pack everything for him and all he has to do is put the kids in the car.
You can use the theme switcher to make the pink one your default.
(I'll take good care of it.)
