A Proud Mommy Moment
Today was the last day of Girlie Girl’s swimming class.
When it started 10 sessions ago, she was told that if she wore her colored wrist band until the last class, she would get a special prize. This was not an easy thing for her to do. There were times when it would get in her way or get dirty or just didn’t match her outfit. However, she was determined to get that prize.
When the time finally came to cut off the band, she was so excited that she couldn’t stand still. They brought out a huge treasure chest and she was able to chose anything from it. There were pretty stickers, sparkly jewelry, cool toys, bubbles, and coloring books.
Know what she picked?

She decided to get something for Baby Bug instead. I know this will sound silly but I almost cried. I was so proud of her! She’s really becoming a very thoughtful young lady.
BTW, you wouldn’t believe what I did today (maybe you would).
Since we got in from Maui a little later than anticipated, we were running behind schedule. DH decided to drop us off at the pool and take Baby Bug home for her nap. In my hurry, I accidentally grabbed Baby Bug’s (size 18 months) swimsuit from the suitcase before he left. OMG! I told Girlie Girl that I was sorry but she would have to try and squeeze her butt into it. She said, “It’s okay Mommy, everybody makes mistakes.” Believe it or not, she was able to get into it. I was going to post a picture but I’m too embarrassed to let you see how I allowed my daughter to go to swim class. The other parents must have thought I was crazy! Thank goodness this was the last class and I’ll probably never have to see them again.

That’s so sweet! But I don’t get why she has to wear the bracelet for so long without removing it….
What a sweet sister indeed! But wait..you mean GG went to swim class with a skimpy bikini? =)
Congratulations to Girlie Girl for completing her swimming lessons.
I think you’re blessed with a kind and very sweet girl. It’s so sweet how she picked a toy for her sister instead of getting one for herself. Such a noble act for someone so young.
It’s wonderful how she said that everyone makes mistakes. Bless her kind young heart!
I love that she said, “everyone makes mistakes.” that is so sweet. and then to get something for Baby Bug instead of herself? That is so so so sweet. You should be proud. She is a pretty amazing little girl
I LOVE THAT!!! Oh I bet you jut got all tingly inside. I thnk it’s such a right of passage when your kids start to think outside themselves. I’m so glad you shared your Pass the Torch moment with us today!
I would have cried too Kailani, those little gestures are priceless aren’t they? I means that you did good as a parent!
Aaawww! How sweet! My oldest always did stuff like that for her little sister. When she would go to the dr. she would ask for stickers for her sister. Party at school? She would bring her a cupcake or share her goody bag. Stuff like that. ALWAYS pulled at my heartstrings!
mine do that too. right when i think they are about to kill each other, one of them pulls this trick out of their bag and mom’s heart melts.
great stories!
very very nice! this is what we all hope and pray our children will be like as they grow and to keep that loving care when they are grown up! Reflects really well on their upbringing!
How very touching!
WTG Girlie Girl! That is so awesome! I love it when I get to see my kids do something so sweet for each other!!! And I don’t blame you for not posting the picture… but I bet it’s FUNNY
Wait a minute, Girlie Girl is six, right? And she squeezed into an 18-month old swimsuit?! Girlie Girl has my utmost respect! That had to be uncomfortable and what a SWEETHEART to try and make you feel better.
And she picks out something for her little sister. She’s an absolute gem and I would have bawled my eyes out at the sheer sweetness factor.
You’re a very luck mommy, K. And you are obviously doing something very right. *smile*
yep a proud mommy moment. Plus, who really doesnt love ducks??
Awwww! How sweet! My kids do this for each other, too, and it always warms my heart and waters my eyes. I guess we’re doing something right as moms!
What a mature, thoughtful girl. Of course, be proud of her! I’d probably had tears in my eyes too.
Awww! What a day. I love those days. They make up for the not so great ones.
Ok, I almost spit water onto my laptop I’m laughing so hard! Thanks for sharing the hilarious story (in spite of your humiliation) and kudos to Girly Girl for being such a sweet heart about the whole thing.
Of course you have a thoughtful daughter. You’re one of the most thoughtful people I know and you’re giving her such a great example.
kudos to you!!
How sweet is that!! I love it when Miss Turtle does things like that. It makes me realize that I have shown my kids how to be sweet and generous.
Oh my, it’s a good thing that you Girlie Girl is petite, huh? I bet that was adorable though
GG is such a sweet girl. I once forgot DD’s swimsuit (okay, more than once) and she wasn’t quite so forgiving to me. We ended up borrowing one from a friend and it was all well.
Thanks for the sweet thing you said about me in the Rockin Girl Blogger post. I won’t be commenting on all the stuff you blogged about while I was gone. Sorry.
Awwww what a neat kiddo! I’d be a proud mommy too. What a fun share.
Hugs,
Holly
aww what a sweetheart!!!
good girl!
Your girlie is such a sweetheart – and obviously TINY to fit into that suit! Don’t you just love it when your kids make you cry for all the right reasons? What a proud moment for you!
I always have to spell the word “beach” Is that just a coincidence or is that the only word for the anti-spam? Anyway, how adorable that Girlie Girl got a present for her sister!!!!! Goes to show how well you are raising her to be a caring person. Also that is cute that she told you that everyone makes mistakes about the swim suit!
Yes, GG is growing up! It does make you want to cry doesn’t it! That is very sweet of her to not only think of her ‘lil sister, but her mommy, that we may be mommies, but we are not perfect! Definetly a great mommy moment!
I was laughing over at Mert’s and now I’m laughing more… it’s late… I’m tired. but between the two of you I’m going to bed with a smile all the way to my belly.
(sweet sweet sister to pick that prize. wow)
Aw what a sweetie you have on your hands there. “Everybody makes mistakes.” Too precious!
funny about the swimsuit thing! LOL sounds like something I’d do
But the little one picking out a ducky for her little sister is just darling!!!
a little bridal ducky nonetheless . . .
LOL to funny. What a sweet undrestanding and thoughtful kid you have there! She’s a keeper!
Aww, way to go Girlie Girl!
You are doing something so very right with that Girlie Girl of yours! Bravo to her. And to you.
oh that’s adorable
What a touching story. You should be proud of raising such a thoughtful and polite young girl.
