Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

Today’s question is:

How does your family celebrate Halloween?

We plan to go to a Trunk or Treat!

  2. 2

We usually have a Halloween party and Trick or Treat in our village. This year the party and trick or treat was early.

Hubby will bake some pie later and we’ll probably watch a scary movie tonight.

  3. 3

Nothing too special – love the kids that come to the door. Our town has trick or treating from 4-7 and then hubby and I do popcorn and a movie.

  4. 4

it has changed through the years. we’ve gone trick or treating, gone to our church’s festival, gone to other church festival, and gone over to friend’s homes. we’ve worked the festivals and/or just attended them. when the kids got too old to go out they started going to parties or a scary movie while mom and dad stayed home to pass out candy.

tonight i think i’m staying home to do the candy things while my husband and kids go out to a movie.

We actually really don’t… It’s pretty much another day. We don’t even watch the scary movies (I have a wild imagination.). Growing up my parents would let me dress up as my fave, a witch… the custom allowed me to win great prizes in school. But yeah, these days not so much.

We are doing the church’s Trunk or Treat and planning on being home early!

  7. 7

We go to the trick or trunk at church and then we go through our neighborhood and we head back home to pass out candy.

    Tena says:

we go to a local park that has set up games, crafts, bbq, bounce houses, and gives a mad amount of candy out.

  9. 9

we’ve only just started last year for matthew, we dress him up basically.
this year’s our first halloween in america and we will be treat or trick-ing to some neighbors and around the campus ….

Pretty much the ‘usual’. The big girls have their Halloween parties at school, then we’ll trick-or-treat around the neighborhood after dinner. Ron and I swap off taking the girls around and staying home to hand out candy. :)

    Rick Bucich says:

Both of my parents were teachers so Halloween always revolved around their school activities.

Now that I’m married, we haven’t established a tradition of our own due to all the moving around.

I can say that our friends in Ridgefield, CT sure did Halloween right however. They got the whole neighborhood together for an outdoor party (weather permitting). At a set time, all the kids would trick or treat together and then go home and go to bed. The parents would stay up and have fun. It was great for all the neighbors because most of the kids would come through in a short period of time freeing up the rest of the evening.

At this point we have no plans. However, if it is a repeat of last year…we will keep most of the lights off..and peer thru the windows into the shadowy streets watching all the kids go by in their costumes lol I might have to encourage my hubby to take us out for the evening!

The kids dress up, but not the adults (I know, we’re such a party pooper). There are years when we all go to a friends’ house for potluck then “hit” their neighborhood, there are years we stayed at home or went to the Hallelujah Party at church.

    Cathi says:

I love Halloween! We decorate the house inside and out. The grandkids had a Halloween party at our house which was a tradition from when our children were young. We attend the annual Halloween Trunk and Treat carnival at our church with the grandchildren before Halloween. On Halloween night, we dress up and pass out candy and enjoy all the little goblins and princesses that come to our door.

    Jen says:

Yes, We carve the pumpkin, set out decorations and the kids go Trick or Treating at my parents and a few of their neighbors and then our neighborhood.

  18. 18

We have always enjoyed dressing up, and trick or treating. It’s been fun to see how the costumes have changed that the kids have worn. Now that the kids are older, no more cute firefighters, bunnies etc.

  19. 19

This year we will probably go trick-or-treating with the kids in my parents neighborhood since we are staying with them. Hubby is away and I am not too in the mood to do much since things may be crazy on a Friday night.

We don’t actually spend Halloween but meet as a family on Nov 1 for lunch and to visit the graves of our dearly departed.

Pumpkin carving, toasting pumpkin seeds, and trick or treating!

    happyathome says:

Very very basic, dress the Bugaboo Girl up and the dog up. This year I am taking my daughter to my grandmother’s for a party at their assisted living center, a little more fun involved, I may have to dress up!

  24. 24

We live in a small town (~1,000) ten minutes outside of a pretty decent sized town. The first year we lived here, we did not think there would be many trick-or-treaters, so we did not buy much candy. Boy were we wrong!

We had so many children that we ran out of candy after about an hour. I mean we are talking 100-200 kids when it is raining and closer to 400 when the weather is nice (like tonight).

So, each year, we invite friends and family to come out and bring a bag (or 2) of candy to help us handle the hoards. We fix soup and sit around and visit and take turns passing out candy and oohing and aaawwwing over the costumes. It is great fun!

    Laura says:

It’s my father-in-law’s b-day, so we usually take the kids over there to do some trick or treating and then have cake and all that stuff to celebrate!

  26. 26
    dee says:

We are just going to go trick or treating!!!

  27. 27

We go trick-or-treating in a nicer neighborhood in my town. There are lots of kids in that neighborhood, and lots of houses giving out candy, plus we have some friends there. Since my kids are still pretty little, one neighbor hood with a lot of hills is enough for us. :)

  28. 28

We usually take the kids to a harvest celebration at a local church!

  29. 29
    Nina says:

Nothing to exciting for us. We just take the kids trick-or-treating every year. They seem to love it and have fun. I hope when they get a little older we can start having some halloween parties.

    HeatherY says:

We went to a Halloween Party earlier this week. My little one still doesn’t quite get the whole Halloween thing yet. Next year we will probably take her trick or treating!

  31. 31
    Sheila says:

Freezing on the front porch with a big bowl of candy waiting for only a handfull of trick-or-treaters. This year, since our kids are all older, they are doing ‘their own thing’ at friends houses, one is seeing Saw 5 at the movies.

  32. 32
    Snowbird says:

Now that I am retired and living in a retirement community, I don’t celebrate Halloween anymore. We don’t get any trick or treaters so I don’t even decorate. Oh well.

  33. 33
    Jen says:

Trick-or-treating then a scary movie with popcorn! :)

the usual I guess, dressing kid up in costume, toting him around to family and friends for “trick or treating”

  37. 37
    Jen says:

The kids will trick or treat tonight for a few hours and then tomorrow night our neighborhood is having an adult’s only costume party. That should be fun!

yup! This year DD is a gray mouse & I’m a black cat.
DH & I are the only parents I know of that still dresses up.

    Colleen says:

We trick or treat! and eat too much candy.

  40. 40

Every year it’s different. Last year we were traveling, so we just set up a candy hunt for my older daughter in our condo. This year we’re going to the Christian school’s harvest carnival fund raiser. No trick-or-treating this year; she got to do that at preschool on Wednesday and got enough candy from that to last her until Valentine’s Day.

  41. 41
    Cammi says:

We go all out! My Dad runs a Haunted House each year from his backyard. We all dress up and just have a great time!

  42. 42

    @ Cammi

    Jealous… ha

Halloween, ever since being a kid, hasn’t been anything special. It’s lost that magic.. However, I have an idea that when I get little ones of my own running around, some of that excitement will flood back!

    sagemom says:

We go trick-or-treating around the neighborhood!

  44. 44

We’re still trying to figure out how we celebrate Halloween since this is the first year Alex can enjoy it. This year, he went to a party at Baby Loves Disco (review coming in a few days) and tonight he’s going to my parent’s church where there’s candy and all sorts of games. This is what I used to do when I was little so I’m excited to take Alex.

We are planning to go around our neighborhood then visit the g’parents and then head to the fairgrounds for some food and fun.

The kids have trick-or-treating the Sunday afternoon before Halloween, and that’s it for us. I decorate for fall, not Halloween.
