Stupid, stupid! Especially since they are the only airlines doing it. It irritates me enough that we are now getting charged for food on domestic flights. I LOVE the international flights, where flight attendants can do their jobs of making the customer happy, offering food and drinks and movies and kiddie packs as needed without having to say "Show me the money." I agree with most of the comments… it is understandable that gas prices for the airlines have risen 91% in the last year but to not allow your own patrons to have at least 1 checked luggage bad is ridiculous. I would much rather seen the weight limit on bags decrease and then if bags went over this then a cost would be assessed… not this mandatory fee when the cost of tickets alone have been rising as well…

I had a strange perspective on this. If they just raised the cost of the ticket it would be less upsetting to the public because few actually try to bargain hunt a ticket. And if they did they would then have the consumer power (this takes away that power of the consumer) Where as if they are put in the position of having to pay for something (like luggage) that has always been free. Feathers get very ruffled. Perhaps some guy thought it would be more fair to those who business travel Or who do not take luggage. It gave them a black eye though because we have expectation of free luggage. Family flight would become cost prohibitive. They are mostly hurting families with small children. It is nearly impossible to fit everything in a carry-on if traveling wiht a small child for any length of time. Not to mention the assortment of liquids and gels that would have to be in small containers crammed in a quart-sized zip top bag.
