Aloha Friday #93

Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.

In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!

My question is:

Do you tip the delivery people when they come to install something you purchased from their store?

Our big screen projection television recently died after 9 years. From what I understand, it lived a long and full life. We purchased an HDTV from Best Buy and it came with delivery/installation. However, I wasn’t sure if I should tip the installers. I hadn’t planned to but they were so nice and friendly to my daughters that not only did I tip them, I also gave them drinks-to-go. :-)

Sometimes. It depends on whether or not they do a good job :-)

Like others I have never had anything from the store installed…but I think in the future (if I do) I will tip. You never know when someone is having a bad day and that might be how you show Jesus to them!

We rarely have someone from the store install stuff for us. But if we did, I might tip them depending on their service. I don’t think tips should just be expected; I think if someone earns it then it should be given.

Aren’t you nice . . . and I bet they appreciated that!!! I find that when I’m on vacation, I’m tipping everyone, but don’t think about it so much at home. I do try to be generous and let others know I appreciate what they do, so I do tip delivery people, too . . . or those who lug stuff to me car. It just seems like the right thing to do, especially when they’re nice and go above and beyond, which it sounds like your people did!

Never had to face that one yet but I’d like to think that yes I would tip them as long as everything went ok.

Never even thought about tipping them, now I feel bad. I do offer a drink etc., but I bet they’d like a tip more LOL

    Sue says:

I don’t think I’ve had anything installed. Just furniture & appliances delivered. But I’m pretty sure I did not tip them.

    Heather says:

We’ve never had anyone come from the store to install anything. We either do it ourselves, or ask a friend to help.

  10. 60

No, am I suppose to? lol

I’ve never tipped. Maybe I should rethink that?

  12. 62

If the delivery person has a specific time to deliver, then I might. But no one has EVER set up a time other than between 8-5, etc.

    Smellyann says:

Nope, it never occurred to me to do so!

I dont really know. I dont think I really have had anything installed. My boiler I guess, and no I didn’t tip…it was a lot of money as it was! We dont really have other installers here…

We don’t normally purchase anything where they have to install it (other than the stove and that took all of 4 min). My DH or I usually do the assembly & Install ourselves. So nope, we don’t tip.

We do plan to have our windows replaced soon and that will require install…but that is a different kind of thing. No tip there either.

However, in the case of your TV I can totally see where a tip is a good idea! :D

I’ve never tipped a delivery person for doing their job of delivering and installing something. Honestly, I’ve never even thought of it.

We also bought a projection HDTV from Best Buy – our is only 3 years old, is on it’s second bulb (not including the first one that was replaced under warranty after only 6 months) and is now blinking the “blink of death” – or so I read. I’m pretty sad about that new development and hope it doesn’t die!

I tip food delivery, but I’ve never tipped furniture or other install/delivery. Hmmm…interesting thought!

    Megan says:

Never purchased anything and had it installed, but I probably wouldn’t tip if I did.

  19. 69

No, unless they gave me excellent service… Most of the time, they don’t bother to talk to me except when they want me to show them where to install the appliance, or sign on the dotted line when they’re done.

    Yes always $5 -$10 usually

For the most part, I usually don’t. Is that bad? There have been times, if they go out of their way and are extra nice, I have given them a tip.

I actually never thought about tipping them. I know alot of the delivery people get the $50 or whatever that you have to pay for delivery or installation. However, I do always offer them a soda or bottled water.

  25. 75

I don’t think we have had anything like that delivered/installed. I would not have thought of tipping them though. I would definitely offer a drink.

  26. 76
    Audrey says:

It’s been a while since I’ve had anything installed, but no I did not.

  27. 77

if we didn’t have to wait hours for the, maybe they will receive tips …

i’m sure your drinks were well appreciated!

  28. 78

Depends on what’s being installed, but under those circumstances I would have too.
