Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

My question is:
Do you tip the delivery people when they come to install something you purchased from their store?
Our big screen projection television recently died after 9 years. From what I understand, it lived a long and full life. We purchased an HDTV from Best Buy and it came with delivery/installation. However, I wasn’t sure if I should tip the installers. I hadn’t planned to but they were so nice and friendly to my daughters that not only did I tip them, I also gave them drinks-to-go.

I have never had anything I purchased from a store installed.
I have not had anything installed that was purchased in the store. Hubster always handles that. Hadn’t thought about it though. I probably would not. I don’t tip the UPS man either ;P
Yes, I have tipped delivery men that have brought our refrigerator and other appliances. Of course the two men that came for our washer and drier 5 years ago and complained the entire time got NADA.
Nope. Never thought about doing it, never will now that you’ve brought it up.

I’ve learned a lot about tipping from my NY however, I don’t beleive we’ve tipped delivery/installers. Food, flowers and those such items but not appliances or furniture. We always offer refreshments though to them though.
not usually but if extra nice and friendly I think it’s a great idea to tip them. Actually, we haven’t had anyone come install because hubby used to work for an appliance store so he just install ours
I do sometimes, depends on how nice they are, if they show up on time, etc.
I’ve never had the opportunity however I might depending on how well they do. I’ve had things delivered but not installed. I never tip for things delivered.
My husband is an installer…so we are tippers.
Never had anything installed. But I did hire some movers when I relocated recently and I tipped them.
I can’t say that I’ve ever had that experience, but no, I would not. Especially not if I have to be available “sometime between 8:00am and 5:00pm.” LOL!
Nope, neve have tipped. We have only ever had one thing installed and it honestly didn’t occur to me to tip. I don’t think I would anyway.
I would never think to tip someone delivering an appliance or furniture. I think I would be likely to offer them something to eat or drink though!
Nope… we don’t tip installers or delivery personnel..
After working in restaurant and retail for so long, I tip anyone who I think is deserving of a tip… delivery installation people included!
Nope, no tip. THe only people I tip that come to my door are the Pizza guys.

I’m not sure that we have bought many things that needed to be installed, but I don’t think we normally tip them when we do.
I usually do, unless they are rude.
Anne
Damn straight!
They do more work than anyone, cashier, salesman.
You do me a solid and I’m tippin braddah at the door.

You are so funny! I never even thought to tip them. I figured it was already included in the installation. Man, not to appear cheap, but I never thought about that before. Thank goodness it’s not very often I have people install appliances for me

I never have. I guess I didn’t really think about it. Most the time the people that come to my house screw more things up than fix them! I suppose though that if I really felt someone went above and beyond I totally would.

I haven’t – honestly never even thought about it. And we haven’t had anything installed since we moved into this house 5 years ago.
I do have to say though – now that I’m the wife of a cable installer… Tips are by no means expected, but are always nice when they come. Every little bit helps.
No, in fact it has never even occured to me that someon might tup them.
I guess I would if I used that kind of delivery service. But my husband is a cheap- I mean do-it-yourself kind of guy!
Nope. I figure they are getting a salary and I’ve paid enough for the item they are installing
Happy Positive Day 2009
Aloha
No because most times I have already paid a delivery fee. Though I have fed a delivery person when they arrived around dinner time. Just seemed the thing to do at the time.
I never have although I always offer bottled water or soda.
While in the military we always provided lunch for the movers. Never a tip though; we were too poor!

We don’t usually have stuff delivered as my husband won’t pay the extra for it, so I never really thought about it.
I haven’t had the opportunity.
I have never had an item delivered that was installed but I don’t think if I did I would give a tip. Maybe if it involved a lot of time I would.
Like you, sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. If they give good service then yes. But I always struggle with knowing how much to tip!
Jamie
No I never have tipped them. We pay a delivery/setup fee at the store.
Yes, I do. I haven’t done it in a while since we have had no one deliver anything in a few years. The guys from Sears got a tip for our washer/dryer, and the mattress guys got a tip too. Have a wonderful weekend and take care.

I do always try to tip but sometimes I am never sure when the right time it so tip. A delivery person would be one of those times I just wouldn’t be sure.
I guess it depends on the service they provide you and how often you plan to purchase from that particular store. I always offer refreshments, especially if it’s hot or cold out. The tipping is like any other service. tip according to the service I get just like in a restaurant or at the hair salon.
I have never had anything installed in my house we don’t even normally have anything delivered unless large appliance such as fridge or stove
I never really thought to tip. I just thought it was part of the fee, but have heard of lots of people doing this, so will definitely consider the next time I have a big delivery…

Nope, I never have tipped. I believe it’s part of their job.
When our new fridge arrived last summer, I tipped the two guys since they were so nice and fast and they even cleaned up their little mess they made! I was impressed by them!
There are many times a tip is expected regardless of how the job was done and we just open our wallets and tip. So any time I feel someone has gone above and beyond what is expected ~~~ I say Tip ‘em and Tip ‘em GOOD!
I’ve never had anything delivered and installed but I imagine that it’s proper to tip the delivery guy(s) if they are nice and do a good job.
Hooray for your new TV!
I have had things delivered… furnature and stuff but never appliances installed. I have always tipped the drivers if they bring in my stuff and help me set it up and dont ruin my things lol
Fortunately, Hubby handles all that good stuff, so I’ve never had to worry about whether to tip or not.
But I can say that I probably would. (If deserved)
my hubby usually installs everything but I also never thought of tipping
No I have never tipped someone, however, I did give a guy lunch. Freshly made chili on a cold winter day.
If I ever got anything delivered, I probably would tip them! {I’ll have to try cookies!}
I typically dont because that is “their job” but really depends on the situation. If they do a really good job and are very helpful then yes…if not then definitely no:)
