Welcome to this week’s edition of Aloha Friday.
In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

My question is:
Would you rather be the smartest person or the richest person?
This was an actual question that was asked in Kacie’s class this week. Surprisingly, she chose to be the smartest person because she felt she could use her brain to make more money.

If you have brain power, many other items are possible in life. Money can not buy you a brain.

I would pick rich, because if I was the smartest person I wouldn’t enjoy as much… Reality TV wouldn’t be as funny and I might just get bored too easily. If I was the richest person I could pay advisers to help me.

I’d much rather be the smartest person. Then I’d know how to make lots of money quickly. If I was rich but not very smart, I might lose it all and then I’d be both broke and not so smart.

Well, this reminds me of King Solomon’s prayer in the bible (1Ki 3:9-14) when he asked for an “understanding mind” to rule his people. God was happy with him in that he prayed for wisdom to take care of his people instead of a long life or riches for himself, or death to his enemies. Because of this God made him the smartest man that ever lived. He also gave Solomon what he did not ask for, riches and honor. So, because it is pleasing to God, I would choose to be smart/wise for the benefit of others and to serve God.

I think I would want to be the world’s smartest person, that way I could help make the world a better place. I must say that being the richest person is a bit of a temptation though, you could also do a lot of good and yet it wouldn’t be such hard work!

My initial reaction is smart, but thinking about it really, being the smartest person in the world would come with huge pressure and a huge amount of responsibility. Like those kids geniuses that graduate college at 11 years old? And being the richest person in the world, who could you trust? I don’t think either would lead to a very happy life. I guess middle of the road doesn’t sound so bad in comparison, lol. Still, either way, think of all the people you could help. That would be awesome.
I suppose if I really had to choose, I’d chose smart.

I’d rather be the richest person so I could enjoy more out of life. In my down time I would read and travel to learn new things so I could also be smart but not the smartest. Too much pressure and responsibility goes with being a genius.

Her answer is exactly what I would have said. Wealth without any other redeeming attributes such as intelligence, compassion, etc. is worthless. The world already has enough rich, vapid people in it!

I don’t know that I’d honestly want to be the smartest or the richest – that’s a lot of pressure. I can tell you I’d rather be smart and have less money than have more money and be dumb, but being rich doesn’t make you stupid or vice versa… And with all that money I could pay people to be smart for me! lol j/k

Oh, that’s easy! I’d choose to be smarter. Because if I was dumb and rich then I would probably blow the money really fast. But if I was smart and rich it might take me an extra day or two to blow alot of money. LOL
