101 Stories Celebrating the Power of Choice for Stay-at-Home and Work-at-Home Moms

How many times have we felt like we were all alone in our isolated world filled with diapers, feedings, and Barney? After my first daughter was born, I decided to stay home for two years because I was determined to spend all my time with my precious newborn and not miss a single minute of her early childhood. After the first month, I was ready to go back to work. I hadn’t even heard of blogging yet and had no way to share my misery with anyone else. I was so sure I was the only new mom that felt this way.

How I wish I had read Chicken Soup for the Soul: Power Moms.

BOOK DESCRIPTION

Wendy Walker, author of Four Wives and Social Lives, has collected 101 inspirational, poignant, and often humorous stories from mothers who have made the choice to stay home, or work from home, while raising their families and becoming active members of their communities. These multi-tasking, high-performing women have become today’s Power Moms.

MY REVIEW

One of the first things that I loved about this book, as with all Chicken Soup books, is the short-story format. It makes me feel like I can pick up the book anytime I have a few minutes to spare and not get forced into reading for hours. In my busy life, this is key.

These stories are written by everyday moms, some famous - some not, who have stories to share with the rest of the mom world. You’ll find yourself laughing, crying, and above all else, sympathizing with their every day struggles as they just try to make it through the day in one piece. So many times I found myself reading a passage and immediately thinking back to when something similar happened to me.

For example, in one of the stories entitled Staying Home, new SAHM Sherrie talks about going to the playground and seeing all the other moms with their established routines and feeling out of place. When she gets to really know them, she finds that she has more in common with them than she realized.

Chicken Soup for the Soul: Power Moms is a must-read for any mom who needs reassurance that she’s not alone in her rewarding yet crazy world.
