How’s your cholesterol level? Do you practice healthy eating habits to help keep your numbers in check? Well, now is the time to get a jump on it and be screened because February is Heart Health Month.
To promote this event, Metamucil and WomenHeart have teamed up to bring you the Beautify Your Heart campaign, a partnership that encourages women to get cholesterol screenings and helps them learn healthy habits for beautiful hearts.
Metamucil is encouraging 100,000 women to get their cholesterol screened and donating $100,000 to WomenHeart to help fund heart disease education and patient advocacy programs. “Desperate Housewives” star and heart health advocate Brenda Strong was the first of 100,000 women to get screened.
How can you participate?
Find a cholesterol screening location in your area
- Learn heart healthy lifestyle tips and recipes
- Enter the “Beautify Your Heart” sweepstakes for a chance to win a heart makeover getaway for you and your friends
- Pledge to get a cholesterol screening
Start the new year off right by taking the first step to living a more healthy lifestyle.

I’m going to focus on aromatherapy because my entire family can benefit from it, not just me.
I have gestational diabetes and have been managing it with diet. After the babies are born, I want to continue a healthy diet so i am not more at risk for type 2. So my goal is better nutrition by eating more fish, whole grains and veggies.

Stay Active Indoors - I work at a desk all day, so I just need to get up and move once inawhile.
I can pledge to do the 30 minutes of nonstop walking or running :-D. I’ve been hitting the gym to do 30 minutes of cardio 3 times a week, but I’m trying to bring that up to 4x a week.

increase my activity level throughout the day after I get my exercising in. I’m not a tv watcher but I sit like a coach potato for long periods of time at the computer or while reading a book. Trying to make a point to get up and stretching each hour. Meanwhile I have resistance bands and light weights prepositioned for convenient use when I settle in to sort email.

Since this has always been a concern for all the women in my family it’s something I’ve become concerned about as well. So the main things for me are losing weight and more exercise to keep blood pressure in check.
