The Dirty Shirt
Tell me a little about your blog and how you became a product reviewer.
I started my blog as a way to keep in touch with extended family. Throughout my updating I was approached by a baby clothing company and asked if I would do a review of one of their items. And the rest they say is history! I had PR reps coming to me and I have gone to them. Being a part of Mom reviewing panels is a huge help too.
What types of products do you review?
I started out reviewing baby products and when I realized that my baby wasn’t a baby anymore I knew I needed to move on. The it hit me that I have two other kids (didn’t just hit me then of course lol) but I started to expand my market. I luckily have a child in each age range, baby/toddler, tween and teen so I pretty much do any product related to that spread as well as mom products and tech products for dads.
Do you normally contact companies or do they contact you?
It is a mixture of both, although the companies contacting me has risen greatly since my Christmas giveaway month was such a success. As of right now I am booked solid through March and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What’s your favorite product that you’ve reviewed and why?
My favorite product I have reviewed is the Seagate FreeAgent Xtreme 1 TB External Hard Drive, mainly because I have been through the devastating loss of thousands of pictures and I never want to be in that situation again. That is my personal review but I really enjoy them all, especially any lotion products, I have received some good smelling stuff!
Any advice to those who strive to become successful product reviewers?
Never, ever be afraid to ask a company to review their product. The worse thing they can say is no but you would be very surprised how many yes’s you will get. It helps to have some good traffic on your blog before you start shopping around but you will be surprised how many are willing to help out.
