Congratulations!

Today is a big day for local girl, Mia King, because her second novel, Sweet Life, is being published today!

From the book: “When her husband, Paul, gets a new job, Marissa Price leaves the island of Manhattan for the island of Hawaii. Paradise seems like the perfect place to find herself, save her marriage, and reconnect with her eight-year-old daughter. But once there, Marissa discovers her new life is less about beaches and beautiful sunsets and more about cows and lava flows. Their new home is a fixer-upper at best. But what most needs fixing - her marriage - is the first to crumble when her husband announces he wants some time apart to find himself.

As New York beckons her back and Marissa suspects Paul of having an affair, she begins to seriously question the wisdom of having made the move to Hawaii. Yet the women she takes in as tenants to make ends meet and her daughter’s blossoming love of the island begin to hint at a new definition of ohana, or family. Pulled in opposite directions, Marissa is faced with the most important decision of her life - a choice that will define who she is, what she wants, and where her happiness lies”

In a recent interview, Mia said, “My main characters are successful women in their forties who’ve achieved, in their minds, the ulitmate success. They’re content with where their lives are and unaware that life has more in store for them. But before they get to experience that deeper, richer life, they have to undergo a trial-by-fire. Their transformation is driven by events outside of their own control, and yet they get to participate and decide every step of the way what it is that they truly want.”

I was lucky to receive an advanced copy and haven’t been able to put it down since I’ve started reading it a few days ago. What I’ve really enjoyed so far is the way the Hawaiian culture and language is incorporated into this book. It’s not overwhelming to the point where non-locals won’t be able to understand the story line. It’s also a great way to get to know the Big Island of Hawaii and the special way the people there live their lives - away from all the hustle and bustle of Honolulu.

Definitely a must-read for all you book lovers out there! Purchase your copy today at Amazon.com for $11.20.

Win it!
