Congratulations!
I’ve never been one for road trips so just the thought of Doreen Orion spending 22,000 miles in a converted bus just blows my mind. Her hilarious adventure is chronicled in an entertaining and insightful book - Queen of the Road.
From the book: “A pampered Long Island princess hits the road in a converted bus with her wilderness-loving husband, travels the country for one year, and brings it all hilariously to life in this offbeat and romantic memoir.
Doreen and Tim are married psychiatrists with a twist: She’s a self-proclaimed Long Island princess, grouchy couch potato, and shoe addict. He’s an affable, though driven, outdoorsman. When Tim suggests “chucking it all” to travel cross-country in a converted bus, Doreen asks, “Why can’t you be like a normal husband in a midlife crisis and have an affair or buy a Corvette?” But she soon shocks them both, agreeing to set forth with their sixty-pound dog, two querulous cats—and no agenda—in a 340-square-foot bus.
Queen of the Road is Doreen’s offbeat and romantic tale about refusing to settle; about choosing the unconventional road with all the misadventures it brings (fire, flood, armed robbery, and finding themselves in a nudist RV park, to name just a few). The marvelous places they visit and delightful people they encounter have a life-changing effect on all the travelers, as Doreen grows to appreciate the simple life, Tim mellows, and even the pets pull together. Best of all, readers get to go along for the ride through forty-seven states in this often hilarious and always entertaining memoir, in which a boisterous marriage of polar opposites becomes stronger than ever.”
Now, I KNOW my husband and I could not survive a year cooped up together in a traveling bus. That’s why Doreen has my utmost respect and admiration. Not only was she a good sport throughout the whole ordeal but in the end she found a way to see the good it had done for herself and her marriage.
One of my favorite chapters is when they travel to Las Vegas and end up parking their RV in the one-whorehouse town of Beatty Nevada. No, really! This inspired Doreen to come up with her “Top 10 Reasons You Know You’re in a Sh*t Hole.” It’s hilarious!
This book may not be for everyone but if you have a sense of humor and an open-mind, you’ll love Queen of the Road. It’ll make you laugh, cheer, and really appreciate hot running water.

Ha! Sounds hilarious! I think I could survive with my hubby… we spent a year where we were together almost 24-7 when we were raising support to go overseas as missionaries! I said, It’s a miracle we haven’t killed each other!!! Actually, we rather enjoyed the time together, which was great!

This book sounds hilarious! I think my husband and I would be able to make it through a year on a bus, but there would be some bickering here and there, of course.
Your button is on my blog.
Sounds like a great book! I do think my husband and I could make it for a year. We’d argue, but I think if I could go to the back of the bus for awhile while he drove, we could do it! :o)
Great giveaway - thanks for offering!

I think that i could survive with my hubby. We are still in love after 15 year.
I subscribe.
haha. no I do not think we could survive a year in a bus. We go better together when we have our time apart. The book sounds amazing though!
Yep, I could do it. Easy. I love travel, I love hubby, and we get along great even in tough situations.
Ooo, this book sounds right up my alley! And I could definitely survive a year with my S.O. if it meant that I got to travel.
I’m subscribed to your feed. Thanks!
It depends on how cute my significant other is! (No S.O. at present.)
Thanks for the giveaway!

It might be a rough year, but I think we’d make it out alive and still even be married by the end!
Hah! I’m sure me and mine could survive together, provided one of us remembered to bring the duct tape! In all seriousness, this book looks plenty interesting. I wouldn’t mind sitting down to read it.
No, I could not survive a year with my hubby in a bus:(

I could do it as long as he had his nintendo ds, PSP, PS2, and XBOX ~ LOL.
Yes, I could survive a year in a bus with my SO. Guess the question is could my SO endure that same year with me? Sure hope so.
Thanks for the contest. Happy holidays!
Yes, my husband and I could definitely survive a year in a bus together! Our house is only slightly larger than a bus and we have lived in it for 4 years. As long as we had 2 working computers we wouldn’t kill each other, LOL.
A year in a bus with my hubby? With Steve? The one who snores so loud that the neighbors complain? The one who “curbs” the car at least three times a day but insists that his eyesight is fine? The one whose gas could destroy a small village? Um, no thanks. But I still love him…lol…

I would have to say no problem with him with me.
Lol, I know I couldn’t!! He has a rotating schedule at work, and when he hits his 5 days off in a row, by day 3 I want to pull my hair out!! I love him so much, but WOW!! Thats all I can say!
Well I dont have a significant other right now, but if I did I think I could definatly surve a year with them on the road! I love roadtrips and traveling so I think it would be a blast! This sounds like a really fun book to read, please enter me thank you!
We would drive each other CRAZY!! No way.

Yes if there was internet access.
Hell to the no! Seriously - not that either of us would consider it. They could film a slasher movie from that bloodbath.
NEVER, not even a month!!!
We can barely survive a weekend camping trip-so no way!
smchester at gmail dot com
We probably wouldn’t last one day!
I would not survive a couple of days. Someone would be left standing by the side of the road….
No way, after almost 20 years I’m making appointments with an attorney, not getting in a camper bus with him. I would go with a fun loving girl friend though.
I think it could go either way. My gut feeling is we wouldn’t make it, that we would drive each other nuts, but then again, if we put our minds to it we might. If forced to give an answer I would have to go with “no” though.

No, I don’t we have enough trouble in our small mobile home
There is no way on the planet. I adore my DH, but I wouldn’t even be able to make it by myself!
I would love to win this for my mom. She would think the is hilarious. I think she could spend a year with my dad in a bus. Thanks!
I would love to try!! Thanks!
Yes and it would be a great adventure.
Yes, if you love someone you should be able to live anywhere.

I’d be willing to try but I don’t think it would work out well for either of us because we both require lots of ‘personal space’.
Thanks for the chance to win to book!
I have worked daily with my husband for over 20 years. i would have no problem with a long road trip. We are already together 24/7.
I own and campground with my husband and we spend 24/7/365 together. some days it’s rough! I can’t imagine being stuck in an even smaller space with him!!! ugghh!!
with this one, (second) yes, we would, believe it or not…he likes me
No that would be too much togetherness and my husband couldn’t go that long without watching a football game.
no way, we’d be lucky to spend a week together
My husband is my best friend. He had never traveled out of our state before meeting me….now he has been to a LOT of places. I am a travel bug. I love to see new places, try new things. Our dream is to just one day jump in the RV and go!! I dream about this all the time now that I am getting older and closer to the kids being out of the house. I hope to make it a reality some day….some day!
I’d love to read this book!
Happy Holidays
UMMM if it was a school bus then heck no lol But if it was a tour bus or a RV then yes I could
I found it hard to survive a few months in a bus with my then-boyfriend, a comedian, as we travelled around the country and he promoted himself in comedy clubs and I promoted myself to literary editors; but I’d do it all over again with my current significant other, even for year, just for the chance to travel!
sure could with some earplugs.
This really sounds like a great book. I would have a ball on a trip like that with my husband.
Happy Holidays!
It would be heaven for us! When we’re not at work we’re together and we love to travel. We drove across the country and back once, best vacation ever!
Sounds like a good one! To answer your question…No. I am just going to leave it at that! justicecw@hotmail.com

I couldn’t live for a year on a bus with my sweetie. He’s too darn messy. He would drive me nuts!
I’d like to read this book. I’d like to think I could live for a year on a bus with my husband. We get along quite well. However, that would be a true test of love.
i think we could do it:) thanks!
I think so
I doubt my husband and I would make it a year in a bus — he is so nitpicky
In a bus? Not a chance!
I am sure I could survive. Thanks for the chance to win.
I could not survive a whole year in a bus with my husband. He would drive me crazy.
Thanks for the great giveaway. And well i think i could survive a year in a bus with my SO but i’m not sure he would survive literally lol. Of course i wouldn’t kill him
Daniel Craig and I would certainly be able to do this together.
My husband and I could absolutely survive a year on a bus together. We fit each other perfectly and never run out of things to talk about.
My husband and I definately could make it a year on a bus together. He is my best friend and we love being together!
I could handle the time alone with my spouse// as long as we didn’t have to drive the bus anywhere.

I just lost my hubby last week. He was retired for the last ten years and I think we could have survived for a year in the same chair. We were together all day , every day, because that was the way we wanted it. Love is bliss no matter where you are. I will miss him terribly.
I think it would be fine, if we could be on the road for a year it would mean we were financially stable and we are independent so we’d each do our own thing and it would be great. We’d find great restaraunts and great sites and it be great for our toddler too.
I would love to read this. It sounds like a great adventure and I’d love to travel like this with my husband for about, oh, say 2 weeks. A year? No way.
Of course I could survive a year in a bus with my significant other! What I would give to throw caution to the wind, quit my day job, and hit the road…sounds awesome!
I subscribe to An Island Review via Bloglines.
I’ve traveled on a Harley from Indy to Key West to Sturgis, S.D. I think I could do a bus just fine.
i think i’d probably not be able to survive with my hubby. he’d probably do something stupid and upset me. now if it was a girlfriend, i’d probably have the time of my life!
We’ve gone a week, which was awesome. Yes, I think I could. We would find ways to stay “occupied”.
Yes, we can survive living in a bus. We have survived worse and like an adventure.
I am sure I could not survive on a bus with my husband. He drives me crazy in our house.
I doubt it because we fight enough already in the house.
No FREAKING way.
Sounds hilarious!
We would be able to get along, we always have a great time on trips. Even when things aren’t going well (airline delays, lost cameras, car trouble) we look at it as part of the adventure.
Physically, I’d survive just fine. Mentally, not so much.
