ADD/ADHD Drug Free: Natural Alternatives and Practical Exercises to Help Your Child Focus by Frank Jacobelli and L.A. Watson is a brand new book that discusses this often-misunderstood disorder in a way that’s easy to understand.

From the book: “ADD/ADHD Drug Free gives frustrated parents a long-awaited natural alternative. The first book to feature enjoyable, practical activities for children that will help them cope with their disorder by strengthening brain functioning, this life-changing guide shows parents, teachers, and counselors how they can improve learning and behavior effectively and without medication. Timely and thoroughly researched, this guide will help thousands of children become more focused and more successful in school and in life, without jeopardizing their health.”

I have friends whose children have been diagnoised with ADD/ADHD and the most common treatment prescibed is usually Cylert or Ritalin. However, not all children take to these medications very well and some even suffer from side effects like insomnia, weight loss, and slow growth. Is this really the answer we’re looking for?

This book will explain what to do if the medication doesn’t work or just isn’t enough. It’s filled will helpful activites and worksheets for you and your child to go through at your own pace that will help strengthen brain functions and assist in coping with this disorder.

Win it!

This is odd that I run across this sweep at this time. This past week we’ve been dealing with some issues with our twin boys in school. I fully believe that one of our sons has some learning issues, but hubby and I are against medicating him since he is still so young. I’d love to read up on ADD/ADHD and learn how to help him focus in general, whether he has this or not!

    Thank you so much.

I would love to win this book since my 5 year old was recently diagnosed with ADHD and he is way too young in my opinion to begin medication. I was ADHD as a child and I felt violated to be medicated at 6 years old.

Looking back, I wish there were the same level of knowledge of this illness back in those days.

Thank you so much for the contest! I hope I win!

Because we currently have kids in our family with this problem.

  49. Brooke says:

Besides all the speech therapy and the OT for my son; we just got the offical paperwork that he is ADHD. I’m against even giving kids or myself painkillers without feeling guilty so there is no way I can give him meds unless it was the only way. Would be nice to see if the ideas in the book would work with him.

  63. Tania Edwards says:

My son was diagnosed at age 3 with ADHD & ODD, by that time he had already left home in the middle of the night, broke 2 windows out of my home and ended up in the ER after climbing up onto the counter and getting a knife to cut the lid off of his paints and sliced his fingers at 6am while everyone was asleep.

He is now 5 1/2 and is on a rather strong dose of concerta (45mg). I would really love to try to break his dependance on the medication as I fear the long term affects. He is doing well in school but I really don’t want him to go through his entire life medicated if he doesn’t need to be!

To sum it up: I REALLY NEED THIS BOOK!!!!!!

  64. Renee C. says:

I am very interested in this book. I am starting a new job working with children with mental health diagnosis and ASD diagnosis. I have worked with others in the past and have felt that there was too strong of an emphasis on meds and not enough being done to research alternative therapies. I would love the opportunity to not only read this book but share some of the alternative options with parents I work with as well as co-workers so they can share them with the parents they work with. It could eventually help a lot of people that they might have other options to consider.

Thanks so much for making this available.

  92. Jennifer B says:

I would love to win this book because both my sons (pre-teens) have been diagnosed with ADHD years ago. I have tried them on several medications, but quickly took them off due to their side effects. I have spent many endless hours on the internet researching alternatives to medications and the only thing I have found is regarding Fish Oil. I now give them one fish oil a day which seems to help a bit. Both with their attention spans and keeping their emotions at an even pace. But I would really love to know more about what other alternatives are out there. It can be quite stressful for all of us. They become easily frustrated and often feel awkward around peers because of the lack of ability to focus.

  93. Brandy Stokes says:

My 5 year old is having problems in Kindergarten, and my 4 year old is showing signs of ADD/ADHD. Their dad had it when he was a kid, and I think still does! My two little one are to young to see if they do. This book would be great!

My daughter was diagnosed with ADHD four years ago. Once she started school, we realized it was impossible for her to function there without some sort of medication. Since then, it’s been hard for her to gain weight. I’d like to see if this book can give us a different path.

I have a son with autism and we have used family intervention and nutrition to help him. He is like a different child…so sweet and lovable now. It is amazing at how alternative treatments can be so effective.

  104. Marlene says:

I would love to win this book for my parents who are the mentors and potential adopted parents of a little, loveable 5 year old boy who has ADD. They have seen him on and off medication and it saddens and scares them. They would like to be able to learn more about the disorder and alternative treatments for the little boy who deserves to be a little boy instead of a drone due to the medication or “a problem” due to his ADD.

    Thank you!
