Congratulations!

Up until now, I have never heard of Corneille or his music. But thanks to Music Moms, I had the wonderful opportunity to review his brand new CD entitled “The Birth of Cornelius“.

CD DESCRIPTION

Corneille is considered to be a major new artist on Motown Records. Though virtually unknown to an American audience, Corneille sells out arenas in other parts of the world.  Originally from Rwanda where he escaped the genocide, Corneille used music as a place where he could go and forget about the world- even if it was just for a little bit.  On his American debut The Birth of Cornelius, Corneille explores smooth soul and acoustic-based R&B pop. Think of a mix between John Legend, Tracy Chapman and Marvin Gaye.

MY REVIEW

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this CD but found myself truly enjoying it. His acoustic-driven R&B sound was easy to listen to and provided a great way to wind down after a hectic day. My favorite song was Back to Life and I found myself  listening to it over and over again.

Corneille sings about love, the heart, and his own personal experiences. Growing up, his parents and other family members were killed in Rwanda during the genocide in 1994. He alone managed to escape - first to Kinshasa, and then to Germany, where he was taken in by some family friends. He is now an established recording artist and a Red Cross Canada spokesperson as well as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.

So, if you’re looking for a new sound, check out The Birth of Cornelius.
