2008 Christmas Ornament Exchange

November 9, 2008

Every year, we put up our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. It’s a holiday tradition. While most people get up before it’s even light outside to stand in long lines on the biggest shopping day of the year, we sleep in. After breakfast, DH puts up our tree and we spend the morning decorating it and the house.

Before the girls, our tree was always color coordinated and the ornaments symmetrically placed. Now, it’s just a mismatched of princesses, Disney characters, candy garlands, snowmen, and traditional ornaments. Nothing matches and I love it that way. Each year I take the girls to the store to pick out one brand new ornament to add to the tree. I put their name and the year on it so that one day they can look back and see what they chose.

This year, in addition to Girlie Girl & Baby Bug’s addition, I’d also like to add an ornament from one of my blogging friends. That’s why I’ve decided to host a Christmas Ornament Exchange and I’m hoping you’ll all join me.

Here’s how it works:

  • Ornaments should cost between $8 - $10 + shipping.
  • If you’d like to participate, please leave your link below AND leave a comment. The reason for doing both is that I’ve noticed that some people will accidentally sign Mr.Linky with no intention of participating. This will help to ensure that I get an accurate count of who’s on board.
  • In your comment, let me know where you live (US or international) and if you’d like a partner from the US or anywhere world-wide.
  • You may participate even if you don’t have a blog.
  • The sign-up will continue until November 24th and partners will be announced soon after. Please try to mail out your ornaments within the first week of December.
  • If you have any questions, please let me know.

I so enjoyed this last year and look forward to this one. My trees have never been perfectly matched even before children as I have always put on the tree what I love.

I’d love to participate. This sounds like lots of fun….I’d rather not have an International pal, but will if needed.

This sounds exciting! I’d love to participate. I’m in New York, so I’d like to ship to either someone else in the US or to someone in Canada

Your tree sounds a lot like mine. I let the girls decorate almost all of it by themselves. One year, we were in the midst of moving and all our ornaments were packed up, but I put up a small tree anyway. The girls got all their plastice play jewerly out and decorated the tree with it. It was my fave tree ever.

Anyway, I would LOVE to participate please. I already joined one ornament swap and I would love to join another. I live in FL and would like to swap with someone else who lives in the US. Please and thank you.

This is right up my alley!

I would be partners with someone from anywhere, I’m ALL for an ornament from the other side of the world! ;)

Our tree is…..eclectic…and I can’t blame that on my kids. It’s just how I do things. When I buy a souvenir on a trip, it’s always an ornament. Decorating the tree is me retelling the story of our family every year. It’s very special to me, and I wouldn’t trade it for a department store perfect tree for anything :)

Are handmade ornaments okay? Or something that reflects where they came from? Is there a theme?

Thanks Kailani! <3

This sounds like fun. I love that your tree went from a “couple” tree to a “family” tree w/ all of the girl’s additions. Sounds beautiful!

I don’t care where I send an ornament to.
