2007 Christmas Ornament Exchange

November 13, 2007

Every year, we put up our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. It’s a holiday tradition. While most people get up before it’s even light outside to stand in long lines on the biggest shopping day of the year, we sleep in. After breakfast, DH puts up our tree and we spend the morning decorating it and the house.

Before the girls, our tree was always color coordinated and the ornaments symmetrically placed. Now, it’s just a mismatched of princesses, Disney characters, candy garlands, snowmen, and traditional ornaments. Nothing matches and I love it that way. Each year I take Girlie Girl to the store to pick out one brand new ornament to add to the tree. I put her name and the year on it so that one day she can look back and see what she chose.

This year, in addition to Girlie Girl & Baby Bug’s addition, I’d also like to add an ornament from one of my blogging friends. That’s why I’ve decided to host a Christmas Ornament Exchange and I’m hoping you’ll all join me.

Here’s how it works:

  • Ornaments should cost between $8 - $10 + shipping.
  • This exchange will be open to anyone world-wide. However, if you do not want an international partner, please let me know.
  • If you’d like to participate, please leave your link below AND leave a comment. The reason for doing both is that I’ve noticed that some people will accidentally sign Mr.Linky with no intention of participating. This will help to ensure that I get an accurate count of who’s on board.
  • If you don’t have a blog, just sign the Mr.Linky with your name and leave your email address in comments.
  • The sign-up will continue until Thanksgiving and partners will be announced the day after.
  • If you have any questions, please let me know.

Does your family have any Holiday decorating traditions?

BTW, here are some graphics you can use if you choose to.

Oh girl I was coming over here when you were over there!

I’d like a pardnah! Only get me a good one–last time I did an exchange, I got stiffed. I hate that! Want names? I can give names. (kidding!) In the spirit of the season, I will let it all go…breathing in, breathing out…..xo

Sounds fun. Not sure if I can join but I hope you’ll have a successful Christmas exchange. I’ll share this on my blog too.

I want in! I adore Christmas ornaments. I’m with Staceyyy though. I never received anything from the “Autumn Swap” but I’m still game and would love to play.
One of the best traditions I have had with my kids and now with the grandbabies is what you are doing Kailani. Every year I buy (or make) the kids and grandbabies (and me & hubby) a new ornament with names and the year on it. When they leave home and have a Christmas tree of their own, they have many years of memories to enjoy with their own collection of ornaments.

What a wonderful idea to have an ornament from a fellow blogger displayed on your tree each year. It so beautifully extends the friends and family warm fuzzies to a whole new level.
Except: I’m old, and have too many ornaments as it is. Still love the concept.

Hello - if you’ve found any up-for-internationally-posting participants can I play please? I am happy to post anywhere and LOVE Christmas and all the trappings (although playing my first Xmas gig on the 4th OCTOBER was a bit early even for me).

My mum traditionally buys the worst most scraggy horrible looking tree and puts on the oldest tattiest ornaments that we collected over the last 28 years ALL OVER the tree. It’s terrible but it just wouldn’t be Christmas back with my folks with a posh tree now.

Oh, such a great idea…except I just commited to doing an exchange already and I know I can’t do two.

I loved how you wrote about mis-matched tree - we have that, too, including ornaments from my own childhood. I loved that you let your daughter pick out a new one each year.

The girls and I usually make ornaments to give to their grandma or even daddy.

Ok, now I’m really getting into the Christmas mood just talking about it all! :)

Hey, we decorate the day after Thanksgiving too - right after the downtown Christmas Parade.

I’d like to do the exchange, but I think that it would put me in overcommitment land…I’m already doing the cards and another ornament exchange. Maybe next year!

I used to participate in one where we exchanged HOMEMADE ornaments.
I was the least craftily-experienced, and at the time, the poorest, so when the group grew to almost 40 - I had to bow out.
But I still take each one out every year and we remember who made it!
[heee, and I hope every year whoever got mine didn't toss them out]
I am in - no internationl though please.
THANK YOU
