The winner is comment #172: Jennifer B
In the far away kingdom of Dor . . . lived a brave and virtuous mouse with comically over-sized ears who dreams of becoming a knight. Banished from his home for having such lofty ambitions, Despereaux sets off on an amazing adventure with his good-hearted rat friend Roscuro, who leads him, at long last, on a very noble quest to rescue an endangered princess and save an entire kingdom from darkness.
The Tale of Despereaux turned out to be a little scary for my 3 year old but my 7 year old loved it! In fact, she’s been watching it every single day for the past week.
What I really like about this movie is that it has something for everyone. There’s a hero for boys, a princess for girls, and lots of excitement and adventure for even the adults. And even though Girlie Girl is truly a princess, she really admired Despereaux as he stayed true to who he was and didn’t conform to peer pressure. It was a great movie with lots of positive messages for children.
The animation was a bit unusual but really worked for this story line. The overall effect gave the movie an authentic old world feel and really helped to make you feel like you were living in a time period of long ago.
Overall, we found The Tale of Despereaux to be a timeless story about finding one’s place in the world. Get your copy beginning April 7, 2009!
