This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to commentors #69: Ken Robinson & #125 Valeen N!

When this movie first came out in the theaters, Kacie really wanted to see it. However, being pregnant at the time I just wasn’t up to going. That’s why we were so happy that we had the opportunity to review this movie that has been recently released on DVD.

SYPNOSIS

Eleven-year-old Toe Thompson is the designated punching bag for the bullies of the suburban community of Black Falls, where his and everyone else’s parents work for Black Box Industries, makers of the do-it-all gadget that’s sweeping the nation. But during a freak storm, a mysterious Rainbow Rock, which grants wishes to anyone who finds it, falls from the sky. Suddenly, the neighborhood that Toe already thinks is weird is about to get a lot weirder. As the Rainbow Rock ricochets around the town – from kid to kid and parent to parent – wishes-come-true quickly turn the neighborhood upside down in a wild rampage of everything from tiny aliens to giant boogers.

OUR REVIEW

At first I wasn’t sure how appropriate this movie would be for my 7 year old since it was rated PG. However, the only thing that I thought needed explaining was the bad attitude that some of the kids in the movie portrayed. There was also a lot of bullying but I took the opportunity to explain to her that this is unacceptable behavior and should let me know if someone ever treats her that way.

Other than that, we really enjoyed the movie. There were parts that were kind of gross like when the giant booger showed up. But Kacie thought it was hilarious as would most kids her age. The thing that I found most interesting is the way the movie was directed. The reason it’s called Shorts is because the story is told in segments or short stories. They’re not shown in chronological order but that just makes the movie more interesting. This way you get to look back and go “Ahhh . . . that’s why!”

So if you have kids of the tween or teenage years, Shorts would be a great movie for your next family movie night!
