Sometimes I feel bad for Kaila. There aren’t very many games our there that are aimed for her age group (2-3 years). Yes, there are lots of other toys like blocks, puzzles, dolls but I’m talking about games that include rules that require specific actions. That’s why we were so interested in learning more about Roll & Play ($19.99) by Thinkfun.
Roll & Play is the first game ever designed specifically for toddlers! The activities supported by Roll & Play are designed to help your child shine, supporting healthy development and celebrating success! Roll & Play is the ideal way to gently introduce play patterns and rules through a loving, joyful play experience!

Game play is very simple. Just roll the over-sized fabric die and see what color it lands on. Each side the of the die corresponds to the same colored card – yellow (emotions), purple (body parts), green (animal sounds), orange (counting), red (actions), blue (colors). Whatever color is showing on the die that’s the colored card you pick. On the other side of the card is some kind of action.
Since these are all things that Kaila is able to do by herself she was able to play along nicely. Of course, someone had to read the cards for her but after that she was on her own.
Kaila had so much fun playing with her sisters and I could tell that she was so happy to be included in something that they were doing. Normally, they’re telling her to just sit and watch. Thanks to Roll & Play she can be a part of the fun, too!
And when we’re done, we can store the cards in a pocket located on the side of the fabric dice. This makes taking Roll & Play along with us wherever we go.
We found Roll & Play to be a lot of fun and very educational for Kaila. She’s at the age where she’s just beginning to learn her colors and body parts and this game helped reinforce what I’ve been teaching her. We loved the bright colors of the cards and illustrations. This way even though Kaila can’t read yet she had an idea of what she was supposed to do by looking at the pictures. The only thing I would suggest is to make the cards a little thicker. Kaila bent a couple of them during our first round of play.
Other than that, Roll & Play is a big hit in our home!
