Ever since my girls watched the movie Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension they’ve been hooked. They’ve been crazy for anything having to do with those crazy brothers. So they were thrilled for the opportunity to play both the Nintendo DS and Wii version of this movie.
GAME DESCRIPTION
Nintendo DS: Based on the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie of the same name, Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension for Nintendo DS takes players on an exciting journey through all new environments in an all new fun-filled game. Play as Phineas, Ferb or Agent P and master combat techniques to battle and overcome enemy drones using gadgets and combat maneuvers while leveling up through over 30 stages to defeat the evil Dr. D and his robot army and save the world.
Nintendo Wii: The Wii entertainment system allows players to explore and conquer all new worlds in an action-packed platforming and combat game. Fans will have the ability to play as one of eight characters including Phineas, Ferb or Agent P and overcome obstacles, use wacky gadgets unique to each character to defeat enemies. In addition, players can collect items, upgrade gadgets and unlock new playable characters while navigating through 24 thrilling levels in a quest to battle the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz and his minions to save the world.
OUR REVIEW
Nintendo DS
If your kids enjoyed the movie Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension or are just fans of the show, they’re going to love playing these games. The Nintendo DS version has players pretending to be Phineas, Ferb, or Agent P as they fight their way through various alternate dimensions to reach the evil Dr. D. This villian is planning to unleash destruction all over the neighborhoods and surrounding areas of the hometown of Phineas and Ferb and it’s up to the heroic group to save the day.
One of the features that I thought was really interesting is the ability to change characters in the middle of the game. Each one has their own strengths and players are able to capitalize on these special skills to get them to the next level. And if you can’t remember which character is best suited for the task, just take a look at the bottom of the screen and you’ll see the appropriate player waving at you.
While making your way through the different levels, players will have to take out various minions and enemies, using everything from laser blasters to a projectile-like electric gum. All the while, having the group work together to create an exciting adventure.
There were times when we got a little confused on which controls to use. However, we found helpful instructions along the way disguised as question marks throughout levels. This was a great feature for a quick reminder on game play.
Nintendo Wii
Out of the two game platforms, my girls definitely preferred the Wii version. They loved the animated characters that looked like they came straight out of the movie as well as all the different dimensions to play in. In the Wii version, players must collect power cores to fuel a gadget that can open portals to different dimensions. You can choose between 8 different characters to play as and you’re also able to participate in drop in, drop out anytime 2-player co-op play. This is a handy feature since Kiana tends to only play games for a little while, take a break, and want to join in again later. With this game she can do so without really disturbing Kacie’s game play.
This game also has a way of keeping the kids attention because they’re constantly changing what they’re doing . . . collecting power cores, fighting evil, unlocking characters, upgrading gadgets, flying, shooting, etc. The only downside is that if you have a child that plays for hours at a time, they’ll probably be able to complete this game in a matter of days.
Overall, the girls are having a blast playing both versions for the Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension which they feel has taken the movie to a whole new level. It’s definitely a big hit in our home!
