My Wonderful Walls Review and Giveaway
This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to commentor #82: Janet W!
Ever since we moved in to our house a year and a half ago I’ve wanted to do something really fun with the boys’ room. I just didn’t know what. Well, finally this summer I had the opportunity to use a stencil kit from My Wonderful Walls and it has turned out awesome!
This was my older son’s reaction when he came home from two weeks at Grandma and Grandpa’s house and saw what I’d done so far…
My Wonderful Walls is a family owned and operated business in Chattanooga, Tennessee. All designs are created in house with just a few artists and everything is done here in the US!
The business started in 2007 when Michael Goins painted a beautiful wall mural for one of his boys and decided to offer the same option to other parents who weren’t so artistically talented. (like me!)
My Wonderful Walls now offers stencil kits, wall stickers, and canvas prints in many different themes.
My Review
My Wonderful Walls graciously allowed me to choose any theme for my boys’ room and they picked the transportation theme. I love to paint so I went for the stencils rather than the stickers. I knew that I could then customize the colors and also reuse some of the elements multiple times if I wanted to.
The stencils and paints (sold separately) came quickly and after I painted my walls blue I got started.
The kit comes with complete directions and I highly recommend you follow them. They know what they’re talking about! For example, 2 or 3 light coats of paint takes longer, but if you just try to glob it all on you get bleeding under the edge of the stencil. Especially if you have textured walls like I do. Even when following the directions I still have to go back with a fine paint brush around the edges. But if you’re not a perfectionist like me you don’t notice from a normal distance.
Stencil painting also takes time so if you don’t want to take too long (or have highly textured walls) I’d definitely recommend the stickers instead.
The stencils are very clingy and some of them take two people to get straight, but they stick well and I’ve reused some of them up to 4 times without having problems. They’ve also provided extra storage sheets for your stencils so you can keep them for later.
I recommend starting with the light colors on the stencil and then moving to the dark as dark paint covers light easier.
It took me about a month between nap times and other summer activities to do what I’ve done (see below). If you have a dedicated amount of time they say a stencil project should take 2 to 4 days. Maybe I’m just slow, but I have enjoyed the process! I still plan to add a car, motorcycle, and fire truck to the town on the hills scene. And another airplane in the clouds on the 4th (red) wall!
For other color ideas check out the gallery of customer images on their website. You can be as creative as you want with stencils and I love it! This is where I got the idea to outline the stars in black so they really stand out better. I also put a little stick Martian in my rocket ship…
Overall I am incredibly impressed with the quality and originality of these stencils. My boys have a unique room that they love and they want to make sure all our visitors see it!
