It’s sometimes hard to play board games with Kiana (5) because she hasn’t yet mastered the art of losing gracefully. Thankfully, we found Peaceable Kingdom where they have games of cooperation rather than competition.
COMPANY DESCRIPTION
Peaceable Kingdom was founded in 1983 with a single product – a poster featuring the beloved art from the classic children’s book Goodnight Moon. Twenty-eight years and more than 5,000 items later, the company has grown to be a leader in juvenile stickers, greeting cards, and games.
OUR REVIEW
We had the opportunity to review one of their board games and decided on Lost Puppies ($14.99). In Lost Puppies, you need to find and bring home all of the lost puppies before nightfall.
The game is easy to set-up and there weren’t too many pieces which made it perfect for Kiana. It comes with a game board and 28 cards with numbers, flashlights, take-a-peek, and puppies on them. That’s it! Basically, you place 2 puppies on one home each and turn the rest of the cards over. These are placed on the squares throughout the game board. You take turns revealing the cards:
- Night cards have a star and number in them. These cards, when found, are placed on the corresponding number on the game board.
- Flashlight cards lets you remove a night card and opens up a path to an unoccupied home.
- Take-a-peek cards let you do just that . . . take a peek under one of the cards.
- Puppy cards – these are the rest of the puppies that you need to show them the way home.
The object of the game is to clear a path to an empty home so that a puppy can find his way back. Strategy and cooperation is key to this game, but a little bit of luck never hurts anyone. Kiana and I had so much fun trying to decide together what we should do with our cards and which paths we should open up. And in the end the best part is that we won as a team. This game also allowed us to communicate our strategies to each other and helped us to accept a different point of view.
There are also other variations of this game included in the instructions or you can come up with your own game. No matter how you play remember that teamwork is the key for a fun family game night!
