I’m sure we’ve all played with an Etch-a-Sketch at least once in our lifetime. I wasn’t very good at it but I could draw a mean set of stairs. Founded in 1960, the Etch-A-Sketch is just as popular now as it was half a century ago, and the Ohio Art Company has sold more than 150 million units to date.
Back in July, Red Robin hosted the ‘Etch A Sketch A Burger‘ contest where they encouraged Guests to ‘draw’ their favorite Red Robin burger on an Etch A Sketch® toy and submit a photo of their ‘drawing’ at redrobin.com. Some time in August, Red Robin will be announcing the 50 winners who will receive a limited edition 50th Anniversary Etch A Sketch and a $50 Red Robin Gourmet Burgers gift card.
In honor of Etch-A-Sketch’s anniversary, I received a classic Etch-A-Sketch to review. Now, believe it or not, my kids have never played with an Etch-A-Sketch before so they were very curious about how it worked. The great thing about this toy is that it’s so easy to use. Just turn the dials and watch the little black line move across the screen. Of course, in order to make a decent picture you have to have some sort of coordination but I just like seeing the line move.
However, what I liked best about the Classic Etch-A-Sketch is that it hasn’t changed at all in the last 50 years. I love that it looks exactly like it did when I was a kid including the logo and the design. Just looking at it brings back so many childhood memories and I hope that my kids will make some wonderful memories of their own.
