This giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to commentor #15: D Schmidt!

School supplies . . . check. New clothes and shoes . . . check. Lunchboxes and backpacks . . . check. Encouragement cards . . . huh?

In addition to all their usual back-to-school items, I usually try to stock up on different kinds of encouragement cards to secretly place into the girls’ lunchboxes and backpacks. It’s a great way to let your kids know that you’re thinking of them even if you’re not in the same room together.

This year, I’m using a selection from Hallmark’s Kids Collection of greeting cards and lunch notes.

For me, it’s especially important to support Kiana this year since she’ll be starting Kindergarten in a big kids school. She’s been feeling very apprehensive lately and I feel that finding a little surprise during her first day of school will help make the transition a little bit easier.

The Hallmark 3-pack greeting cards are a perfect way to brighten Kiana’s (5) day. I really like that the wording is geared towards kids. For example, “If I could hug you every time I think about you . . . you’d be smooshed!” Or there’s a card that says, “Not only do I miss you . . . but my refrigerator misses your pictures!” Inside this card is a picture that your child can color and bring back home to you. What a great idea!

The Lunch Notes is a mini-sized pad of paper with little notes on them. I like the modern looking graphics and colors which make them perfect for older kids like Kacie (9). Some of my favorite notes are:

No matter what, I love you . . . even on bad hair days.

Guess who misses you? Are you guessing? Too obvious? Okay, it’s me!

If you get frustrated, remember that everybody gets frustrated sometimes. It just means that you’re learning something new. And before you know it, it’ll be easy.

And if want a fun way to deliver all these messages, check out Bug ‘Em! Bug’ Em is a cool-looking ladybug that’s really a zippered pouch that you can fill with cards, notes, snacks, and other little surprises! These are perfect for when your child’s birthday falls on a school day or when you want to celebrate other special occasions like a school award or awesome report card. The ladybug’s front legs are also bendable to hold notes and cards.

So now that you’ve stocked up on all the traditional back-to-school items, why not get some non-traditional items as well from a name you trust . . . Hallmark.
